TRINITY RIVER MUSIC PROJECT
TRMP is comprised of two internet groups representing Dallas (BigD60s) and Fort Worth (musicandartsagogo). As the Trinity River Music Project, BigD60s and musicandartsagogo collaborate on the goal of documenting and interpreting the cultural experience of the 1960s in North Texas. By networking with local musicians and their families and friends, the groups have scanned and uploaded an enormous quantity of valuable archival material. We have often been told that there is nothing like this online archive anywhere else in Texas.
The Dallas Yahoo Group BigD60s (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BigD60s/) was founded in early 2003 by William Williams and David Dennard, both of whom were active in the Dallas music scene of the 1960s. The group currently has 503 members, including musicians, club owners, producers, and music afficionados. This group is dedicated to researching and archiving North Texas music history, especially the popular music history of the Dallas/Fort Worth area during the 1960s. Members share memories, photographs, and memorabilia of the bands, clubs, concerts, and cultural milieu of that momentous era.
A corresponding Fort Worth Yahoo Group, musicandartsagogo, (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/musicandartsagogo/), founded in 2004, currently has 303 members. Moderated by Rick Benedict, musicandartsagogo continues an unbroken Fort Worth tradition going back to the 1960s: the annual October concert in Trinity Park, which brings together many of Fort Worth's finest musicians, most of whom are veterans of the 1960s musical culture in the city “Where the West Begins.” All proceeds from the October event benefit the Tarrant County Food Bank.
Musicandartsagogo also hosts reunions of musicians and fans associated with some of Fort Worth's 'Teen Scene' clubs, such as the Teen-aGoGo, the Box, and the Cellar. The group provided archival material and other assistance for a recent documentary film on the city's Teen-aGoGo scene of the 1960s and is currently assisting in the production of a documentary on Fort Worth's franchise of the notorious chain of Texas clubs called the Cellar.
Our collective efforts to scan and upload photo collections and relevant historical material have been so successful that, having surpassed the storage limits of the Yahoo Groups, we opened a central photo gallery containing over 4,500 images. This site address is: www.flickr.com/photos/bigd60s/sets/.
We have also recently established a linked website that can house audio and video files. The in-progress site enjoys virtually unlimited bandwidth, and is growing rapidly as digitalized recordings and video clips are being contributed by our members. This site address is www.trinityrivermusic.net./
TRMP is involved in many other satellite projects, but this overview should provide some idea of the kind of work we're doing.
Best regards,
William Williams
