Bidna Capoeira uses the Afro-Brazilian art form of capoeira (art, music, dance, sport, play) to implement psychosocial programmes in underserved communities, focusing particularly on children and youth in refugee camps.
Capoeira was developed by slaves brought to Brazil from East Africa in the 17th century. The precedents of capoeira’s history and rituals remain relevant to the work of Bidna Capoeira today.
Capoeira is story telling, movement and exercise, song and instruments, social talks, community spirit, philosophy and respect. Through capoeira we provide rehabilitation and therapy, training of trainers, support in child protection, gender equality, education and development, sport, as well as psychological support for vulnerable children and communities.

The name comes from children in the Al Tanf Refugee Camp shouting, ‘Bidna Capoeira!’, Arabic for ‘We want capoeira!’
