I'm a writer and a photographer.
I used to work with a Nikon Coolpix 8700 but now I have a Nikon D50. I'm in love with my Nikon 85mm f1.4 and my Tokina 11-16mm f2.8. Other lenses in my kit: 50mm f1.8, 28-200mm, 18-55mm (all Nikon). I started my approach back to film by dabbling in Holgagraphy and am now using my dad's old Hexanon and Vivitar lenses on a couple of Konica bodies—the FS-1 and T3. If you are looking to get (back) into film, I recommend Konica gear; it is first rate, and you can find terrific deals on used equipment on ebay and elsewhere.
You can read some of my articles at ColorLines, The American Prospect, In These Times and The Black Commentator.
I was guest editor for the March/April, 2006 Dollars & Sense magazine, a special issue devoted to the Gulf Coast region since Hurricane Katrina. I went on assignment for the magazine to Mississippi and Louisiana at the end of January, 2006. My feature article is online, as is one of my three interviews published in the magazine.
Photos from my trip to the Gulf Coast are right here, on flickr (of course).
I am also Online Communications Manager for Physicians for Human Rights.
You might know me as @minorjive on Twitter. I blog at the link, below, and also post stuff on my tumblr.
