August 2011: I did a bit of contact 'housekeeping' a while back and will probably be looking to add a 'few' new people to follow. If you find I've added you it's because I like what you photograph and/or the style in which you do it. I'm not asking for a 'follow back' because it is almost certain my photography will not be as interesting to you as yours is to me.

As you will soon notice, my photostream is not a portfolio or gallery of only my best 'work'. No, this is where I post the better photos (or the only ones I might have) from my travels, days out, general wandering and so on.

I've also done a little re-organisation of my sets and collections, which I had got a little lazy updating. I also want to delete some older photos, partly because they are crap, but mainly because they don’t have any real associated memories with them. Most of these don’t appear in sets so you’d have to look through my stream to find them. My advice is don’t bother. You will regret it, and will never get that time back.

My oldest photos (in sets pre-2006) were taken with a Minolta Dynax 5. By and large I only ever used this camera when travelling and so I was unpractised in its use and clueless how to get to most out of an SLR or how to compose a decent photo. Still I occasionally got lucky and they do bring back wonderful memories.

Partly for convenience and because of my travel addiction I went and got myself a digital point and shoot (Pentax Option 555) which actually was a pretty good camera. It was then I started to become interested in photography as a hobby as I played around with composition. Gradually my interest has grown and I ‘upgraded’ to a DLSR in 2008, ‘upgrading’ this to a better model this year.

Oh apparently I'm supposed to write some stuff about not using my photos without my permission (especially for commercial purposes or on any commercial website), but you know all that already and would never think of doing it without asking. Right?

"I have thought about just what to say here for a while now, and have just decided to tell the truth.

Here is a man with a great brain, good heart and instinctive eye. He tells the story as it is in his work and has great fun doing it. I think his shots are always worth having a look at and then having a second look at, to see what you missed.

He demands high standards in people and his own work, but it is all worth it in the end. A good friend, keep it up mate!"

"right now write down five things you think qualifies as being a good photographer and he's got it.
he's got your list and everyone else's tucked quite neatly in the modest space between his brow and index finger."

"I stumbled across Rob and his photstream when I was passing out my awards in the High Five group. I remember it was a Self Portrait and b4 I even saw the title I was interrested then I read the title "Attractive? I think not!" (made me giggle) and well that just sealed the deal..

I love his humor and I try and visit his photostream daily because I'm always guaranteed a laugh with his entertaining title's and descriptions. Oh and by the way he can take pretty good pictures too!!..

After reading your profile today I just had to write a testimonal.. I agree with sooo much of what you had to say and have found myself angered by others arrogance and sometimes even rude comments. I believe theres a way of handing out criticism without being brutal. Oh and Rob I don't own Photoshop.. hehehe

I hope to see more of what you have to offer the photographica world because theres those of us out here (yes me included) who thoroughly enjoy your work!!

    Your flickr-in friend, Cherish"
