I got into this Flickr thing as a place to stash photos for faraway friends, but its become something entirely different.

In August 2010 I moved to Santa Monica, California. It's like LA, only quieter. Prior to that I lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1994. An Australian by birth and at heart, I spent most of my childhood in Australia, but I've been in the US since 1989, usually with trips back to Australia every once in a while.

Photography has always seemed like magic to me and still does. I hope that never changes.

I'm a gear head by nature, but the cameras I use are dictated by budget as much as anything else. This keeps me from getting overly gear-obsessed. :)

Gear doesn't take photos, but in case you're wondering...

I used an Olympus E-500 DSLR for about a year. I loved the build quality and features on the camera but decided to switch to Nikon in November 2007 after I started hanging out with a bunch of other Nikon shooters.

Thus far I've I shot a lot with a Nikon D40x, D90 and D7000.

Photography has never let me down.

Some of my favorite photos are no good, and some good photos are not my favorites.

I put all kinds of pics up on Flickr and I welcome comments on all my photos.

If I mark you as a friend, most of the time it's because, well, we're friends or could be. But sometimes its just because I want you to be able to see my friends & family images. Don't be weirded out. :)

If you invite me to join a group and I don't join, please don't be offended. I have a hard time keeping up with posting to groups so these days I try to only join those I think I will honestly participate in. Because I am lazy. :)

If you would like to use a photo for any purpose please ask for permission. I'm pretty liberal with rights depending on the use, but I retain full copyright to all images unless you have explicit permission from me to use a particular image. My photos have been used with permission by various publications including AlterNet Books, the Albuquerque Journal, the Queen Victoria Markets, the University of New Mexico Foundation and the 2010 Albuquerque Visitor's Guide.

If you're looking for the British photographer Ben Roberts I am not him. Go here.

"I only met Ben a few months ago via the local Flickr photo group but I can say without a doubt what a generous and friendly soul he is with an excellent photographic eye. And he wears some nifty orange shorts too!"

"Checking checking out your shots again.. really great photography, and a great cross-section of topics. Its great that people can share their world on a space like this. I feel honored to get such a wonderful insight into other peoples lives - the photos tell the stories. Loved the trip to rural Victoria (Lived there myself for many years) - and seeing the family Xmas brought a smile to my face- and good memories of my own flooding back.
Thanks for SHARING your world with us - its quite SPECIAL!
    Cheers, Kev."
