The Beauty Project
[Picturing our beauty through the eye of The Beholder]

What is It?

The Beauty Project is a day long photography project that that celebrates the beauty and femininity of The King’s daughters. It is based on the premise that we are each of us unspeakably beautiful, but have also been deeply wounded in our beauty. Our hope and prayer is that this special day will move us from a shame-based understanding of our femininity to a place of delight and enjoyment. We expect that God’s Spirit will be present in this venture, working to renew our understanding of how He sees us and beginning to heal and restore us in this essential part of ourselves. The camera will simply be a medium for capturing the beautiful essence that lies within each woman of God.

The first Beauty Project took place on November 3, 2007 in Grand Rapids, MI.

Before the event, women take time alone and in community to inquire into the heart of God for a vision of herself through His eyes. She then works to put together symbols and personal appearance and attire to express that image.
The project is interspersed with prayer -- prayer for God to guard us from competition and comparison and prayer for God to fill us with truth and life-giving words for one another.

The day of the project is a joyful time of beautifying and rejoicing, and each woman gets her turn in front of the camera. Good music, nutritious food, and the opportunity to journal about thoughts, impressions, and emotions that arise in the process.

After the project, the team photographers create full-color, publisher-quality books for each woman to have the option of purchasing as a way of memorializing this impactful event.

It's all about healing, restoring, reclaiming, and reconnecting with the feminine beauty that our adoring and delighted heavenly Father has laced into our souls.
