Flickr is the most amazing celebration of the Universal through the Particular. Yes, there are hundreds of spectacular photos on Flickr. But there is also an honouring of those simple everyday things that make up most people’s lives. Through all the shots of dandelions and teacups, fenceposts and doorways, we express what I call "the dearness of this world". Sharing pictures with people everywhere we also share our lives and begin to understand how others live.

For people with a “photographic eye”, the world is a very rich and rewarding place. When almost everything that you look at is either Beautiful, Wonder-ful, or Interesting in itself or its context, then there is little room for boredom or depression. You don’t even need to actually take photographs - just looking around is enough! Surfing Flickr opens our eyes and enhances our capacity for such a view of the world. I am very grateful to the people who started it, to those who maintain it, and to all the photographers from whom I learn so much.

There are not many pics of people here because I share photos of friends and family elsewhere and I don’t like posting recognisable photographs of strangers. As well as straight photos, I enjoy making abstracts based on photos with Photoshop.
