Raised in Groves, Texas. Graduated from Port Neches-Groves High School in 1967. Went to Rice University on a football scholarship. Transferred to Lamar University in Beaumont my senior year and finished in 1993 after after a 2-decade layoff at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, then went on there to a graduate degree (MEd) in 1997. Lived in Austin, Texas, from 1984 - 2004 before moving to West Texas to the desert oases of Balmorhea. Retired after 20-year career in counseling. Before that I was a carpenter for 20-years.
