The world is too much with us.
William Wordsworth 1807
The world is too much with us; late and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers;
Little we see in Nature that is ours;
We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon!
This Sea that bares her bosom to the moon,
The winds that will be howling at all hours,
And are up-gathered now like sleeping flowers,
For this, for everything, we are out of tune;
It moves us not. --Great God! I'd rather be
A Pagan suckled in a creed outworn;
So might I, standing on this pleasant lea,
Have glimpses that would make me less forlorn;
Have sight of Proteus rising from the sea;
Or hear old Triton blow his wreathèd horn.
"The World Is Too Much with Us" is a sonnet by the English Romantic poet William Wordsworth. In it, Wordsworth criticizes the world of the First Industrial Revolution for being absorbed in materialism and distancing itself from nature.
Other English Romantic poets would follow Wordsworth's lead in taking apparently insignificant moments and, by observation and contemplation, raising them to illuminations of experience. Wordsworth defined poetry as the "spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings," intense "emotion recollected in tranquillity." In the sonnet "The World Is Too Much with Us" the poet contrasts Nature with the world of materialism and "making it."
To the modern world the world is just scientifically explained and spirituality is confined to church or whatever religion we are once a week and the rest of the week we are free to put our attention on the materialism of our life and our desires for all things of this world, whether they are gross desires or what we consider higher materialistic desires like things for our families and promotion at work.
Such attention takes away our joy of the moment and ability to rejoice in the simple things in life and see beauty in all things, as we have a rush to possess things and hold onto it and have those things rather than just simply seeing and experiencing the joy of that.
So my photography is just my small attempt to capture the joy of simply seeing things around us. And seeing this poem of Wordsworth I felt he put into words what I was trying to do with my photography. Hence I have quoted that here in my profile.

I try to respond to all comments. I have taken on more personal and professional commitments in 2012 and if I do not respond it's highly likely its lack of time. Those who comment regularly I really appreciate those especially and have made every effort time permitting to respond.
I teach, I paint draw and take photographs. I worked for a period of time as a Graphic Designer and have an Hons Degree in Graphic Design as well as a teaching post graduate qualification.
Some of my previous teachers in art are well known, as well as famous itinerant lecturers in Graphics when I was studying. The art images do not reflect my graphics career or the breadth of the work I have done, but mostly are more recent work. There are various reasons for this.
This flickrsteam has some of my artwork as well as photographic images.
Thanks to all those who spend their time looking at my images and leaving their thoughtful comments and faves!!
Much appreciated!!!!! I have appreciated every one of your comments and the precious time you have spared to make those.
Sometimes I have been so tired I have just faved your work and might not have had enough brain cells firing to put into words my appreciation. But if I have faved or commented I love it!
Late 2010 I got a Nikon D90.
I bought Nikon FM2's in the far distant past. But They have fallen into disuse.
The advent of digital and photoshop has made photography much more accessible and given the photographer much more control over the image.
I love it.
I love photography and after a period when I was not taking pictures for various reasons I have re embraced it since getting my digital Nikon. I also love photoshop and I'd love to do really great digital images but not sure if I will go as far as I'd like to go with that or not at this stage.
I have started using camera raw just before the end of 2011 and love it!!
There are some wonderful inspirational images of created on Flickr and as someone remarked, its the Facebook of Photographers.
I am sure my images have improved 100% this last year due to your time giving me feedback on which pictures worked, and also my time spent looking at the work of others which has in turn inspired me, made me want to improve my work and motivated me in so many ways.
I personally feel my photography has improved over the last year. I really do not think it would have improved so much if it were not for the community that Flickr is and the ability to work in a situation with peer feedback. So I thank each and every one of you for your time!
I look forward to viewing your gorgeous inspirational images in 2012 and hope I have sufficient time to give them the comments they deserve!.
I appreciate all types of photography and styles.
The pictures taken before sept or nov 2010 on this stream, were taken with a very basic small fuji point and shoot camera. Those after that time are nikon D90. It took me quite a while to save up for that!.
If I get a message from you saying [Flickr] YOUR NAME wants you to see a photo and I have not seen regular comments from you on my photostream I will not make any more time for your picture than you have made for mine. Please do not use this as a shortcut to taking the time to support the photostreams of others. Please take time to look at the pictures of others, and support them, you will get so much out of it.
Please also check out my galleries. They are full of your images, not mine!! If i have faved your picture and NOT put it in a gallery its still wonderful but did not fit in a theme in one of the galleries.
