I am a 59 year old, jewelry designer for over 17 years. I have been quite happily married for 38 years, a miracle in todays world! Two adult kids, a son;37 who is married. He is a Dr. of Native American Anthropology, is a professor and writes books. His wife, also a Dr. of Public Medicine/Native American speciality and also the head of the Breast Cancer Research Dept. at Ks. Medical Center, so they obviously live in Ks! They just lost their only daughter, 8, to a terminal disease, a horrible thing to have to wirness your child going through. My daughter is 29 going on 20!!! She is the `wildthing' in the family', and maybe one day will grow up. She has a little girl-Gianna who will be 2 in Aug. She is the little Ladybug that graces my photostream and the Fairy lover!
I have been designing one thing or another since I was 10. I used to make skirts out of patterns made from paper food shopping bags! I was the 1st one to wear a midi (long to ankles) skirt in the 60's and got laughed at everywhere I went, but within 6 months had all my friends asking for one. I was always coming up with off the wall clothes, paintings , make-up and jewelry. From then till now at least 85% of my wardrobe is black. I think I was somewhat Goth way before anyone even knew the term, as this was the 60's. We burned our bras in front of the mayors office for Women's Rights. Yes we were all arrested for public lewdness, but over 100 women, we were all released. We marched on Washington to stop the Viet Nam War, marched for Civil Rights, I think it was the most violent, educational, changed the world era of our time, and I am glad I was part of it.
So now I design jewelry, this is my main source of income as I am now disabled, this keeps me going and it is definitely a passion.
