Asyraf Lee or formally known as Ahmad Asyraf Shazaf is a son of two teachers who was born in the late 80s. Being like any other boy in this world with itchy hands and the curiosity to match, he developed an interest towards electronics and anything mechanical which resulted the disappearances of the 3 previous radios and a VCR unit that belong to his father of which none of the items mentioned above worked accordingly after that.

Photography only came to his mind when he was studying in a local technical school in the subject of electronics engineering and it became one of his passions. But a digital camera for his amusement on the other hand is not a possibility as it was considered as a luxury item for a lower middle class family. Being known as stubborn in his family, he was determined to make a better outcome of his life with engineering. Unfortunately not long after his finals, a financial problem occurred which prevented him from furthering his studies in engineering.

Not long after, a portraitist that he knew offered him a tour which allows him to see how work is being done in a photo shoot. Little did he know, that particular tour was actually a successful interview for a personal assistant position and the girl he met before the photo shoot is now his girlfriend. During that period, he too has assisted to the two people who also helped him from square one.

Now, Asyraf Lee is currently based out in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Aged 19 this year, he is probably the youngest professional photographer in Malaysia who specializes in portraiture and photojournalism. He has served numerous clients ranging from personalities such as Harith Iskander, Ella and Mawi to large corporations like Bloomberg Malaysia, Forever 21 and Menara Kuala Lumpur Management. His work also appeared in many publications such as The Star, Stuff Malaysia, CHIP Photo Video Digital Asia and FACES.

Photography aside, Asyraf Lee is also a petrol head and garage junkie by nature which developed during his childhood when successfully jammed the gearbox of his father’s Toyota Corona XL 81 in an attempt to drive, illegally. Currently it belongs to his collection of cars and is under a restoration process. He is also a once proud owner of a Aprilia RS250 which he made an expensive discovery with it that speed isn’t actually fun anymore when you already crashed.

Poor chap.
