a note to all my flickr friends:

i love your stuff. or, at least i like it a lot. ;) that's why i wanted to be your contact. thanks for sharing your images with me and for visiting, favoriting, and commenting on mine.

oh, one other thing. but it's a big one:

here, on flickr, please...no dumping on the lawn.

always respectful of your images, i make you this promise:

when i comment on your images i'll not deface your page with my own personal badge or those of any other group to which i belong.

i believe leaving unsightly badges within comments to be the flickr equivalent of visiting someone's house and and taking a dump on the front lawn before leaving. that kind of "signature" is the one "feature" of flickr that i find without redeeming social value.

this is not snobbery or elitism. it's respect. i believe my visits and comments are meant to be expressions of support and approval for your images, not forms of advertising for me or any other group to which i belong. i don't expect to get anything back from my visit to your images other than being enriched by the experience. and it's my belief that your images and your pages on flickr are supposed to be solely about YOU.

you may not feel the same as me. that's cool. the world is a big enough place, with infinite opinions, that we can respectfully disagree.

but that's my promise. and what i expect, in return, is the same respect and consideration i show when visiting your virtual house and your flickr images. namely, no dumping on the lawn.

to others not yet my contact...

if you are here visiting my photostream for the first time, thanks very much for stopping by. if you like what you see, send me a contact request and we'll hold hands virtually.

"you seem to have a lot of favorites"

i find myself marking favorites not just to recognize technical excellence but for a wide variety of reasons: usually it's because i don't have enough time in the day to comment on all the great images i see here, yet i want to acknowledge those that have moved me in some way. it might be the subject matter, composition, sense of place, color, novelty, a resonant title, processing, and sometimes just a simple gesture of kindness and encouragement to someone who's trying hard.

thanks, again, for sharing your gifts to the world and to me. i hope to give as much as i receive.

is there webby life outside of flickr?

why, yes, there is...

• Many of my images on flickr can be found in MUICH LARGER SIZES at my formal gallery...

  associatedpixels

• a few, black and white selected images at 500px

• a personal portfolio

• the sit up straight and eat your vegetables and be all serious and everything summary of my long working years in silicon valley is posted at linkedin

• and i occasionally tweet like a drunken tourettes sufferer @bobeddings

oh, and one more thing...

if you are lucky enough to live here in portland...or, to be visiting our friendly little pdx, rose city, bridgetown, brewtopia, p-town, stumptown, puddletown, rip city, beervana, little beirut, 503, portlandia, or simply "the best place on earth™"— send me a flickr message and we'll get together for a beer. not a shimmering, electron, virtual beer, but a pinch-me-it's-real portland microbrew.

cheers everyone!

    Scott Withers Photography says:

"I've enjoyed Bob's photos for some time now and figured I needed to write something. Bob's photos are unique in a creative way, he really seems to put a lot of thought into his photographs and how they will come out. The end result is nothing short of amazing. His Pocket Series is something I've also enjoyed, he really has a great eye, and sees things differently than most. I know I've drawn inspiration from his photographs, and I'm sure many others have as well. His photos he takes with his camera phone would put most photographers to shame with there $5,000 cameras. It just goes to show, it's not the camera, it's who's behind the lens. Thanks Bob for opening my eyes a little wider when I go out and take pictures. A real treasure to the Portland art scene!"
