I am honored by her words and consider them each and every time I take a photo or post one in my stream.

WHO AM I?

I am a Hawaiian. Actually I am a hapa haole or a person of a mixed background including Native Hawaiian (kanaka maoli) heritage. I travel extensively for my job which allows me to capture the essence of beauty and street fashion across the world.

My friends say I have “yellow fever.” My friends are primarily Asian. They tell me that “yellow fever” indicates a non-Asian person who is “infatuated” with all things Asian; in other words, a person who acts Asian even though they may not have that heritage.

As you will see by my photos my interest in all things Asian extends to my appreciation of the beauty of Asian women. There is just something at the way Asian ladies present themselves that I find magical!

I am male in my early 40's.


WHAT YOU WILL FIND HERE...

Do you need to be a model to be beautiful? Are beautiful people only found in magazines, on TV, or in movies? No, everyday we pass by beautiful people whose beauty rivals (or perhaps even passes) the world's "idols."

My favorite flower is the cherry blossom. The Japanese call this flower the "Sakura." It comes in many different varieties and colors, each renowned for its unique beauty. This beautiful flower has a lot of symbolism throughout Asia.

In China, the cherry blossom symbolizes feminine beauty. In Japan, this flowering tree is planted and cultivated for its beauty. Moreover, in Japan, cherry blossoms are believed to exemplify the transient nature of life, because of their short blooming times.

Each day we are given little moments of time where we are blessed with the beauty of a stranger that may merely pass us by. The moment is all too short- much like the temporary beauty of a cherry blossom. It is beautiful, but fleeting, and we are left with a mere memory. And so, it is those strangers who are the "models" for my images.

Through photography, we are able to capture that memory, to assist ourselves in our remembrance. And to share the beauty with others, so that they too may appreciate it's splendor.

Through my photos, I attempt to highlight everyday beauty that we pass on the streets. Unfortunately, all to often that beautiful moment passes too quickly. Time may march on, but hopefully my photography will retain the magical beauty of that moment forever. I also hope to document current fashion, styles, trends, and hairstyles.


All of the images here are MY OWN images taken with various cameras. My newest camera is a Canon 5D Mark II.


WHAT YOU WILL NOT FIND HERE...

You will not find images stolen from the internet. You will not find images stolen from others. And, you will not find any nudity. I believe that the beauty of a woman does not require her clothes to be removed. In fact, most of my personal favorites are actually my candid portraits.


STREET PHOTOS?

I believe that women are at their most beautiful when acting naturally, un-posed, and simply enjoying life (candidly). My photos attempt to capture that moment without disturbing their natural beauty. I take my photos in public places without feeling the need to “hide.” When I am taking my photos, it is quite obvious that I am taking photos (particularly with my new SLR) and if ever asked by my subject, the photo is deleted and never published. If you are in one of my photos published here on Flickr and wish to have it removed, please email me and I will honor your request.

This photo to me is what street photos are all about. All too often we pass beautiful people and are only left with a memory. But a camera can capture that moment so that the beauty can last. As you can see, I do not hide when taking my street photos - and often times receive a smile in return when I am noticed. ^^ This girl is not modeling for me- yet her beauty can compete with that of a professional. Why? Because her natural beauty is allowed to shine.

Despite the big lens and close shots he takes he is respectful and interacts on a personal and friendly level with his subjects in a way that is enjoyable to be a part of. That is the essential difference between what you do, and the street voyeurs out there. Your photos are appropriately called "Candids" because they are not lewd pictures of attractive women, in sexually provocative positions. Nor do you just take pictures of women's bodyparts, which might suggest you see them as a collection of parts. You capture the beauty of women going through their everyday lives.
