Flies in the vasoline we are
Sometimes it blows my mind
Keep gettin' stuck here all the time

—words by Scott Weiland

a r b o : I'm an advertising creative and I make fonts (typefaces!) I'm an overseer of typography and architecture articles at Wikipedia, and I do interviews with type designers & other artists.

j a m e s : art director, copy writer, branding & identity, branding communications, typeface design, detail specialist, audio engineering, women, marx brothers, running gags, whiskey, some selling done.

I can spell and grammaticize perfect Oxford English, but when online I choose not to, because the English language is very screwed-up and reform is about a hundred and fifty years overdue. The quickest way to catylize reform is to lead by example. Cut the cards. Design a way forward. Show, don't tell. The internet and our cybersociety give us a vast opportunity to unscramble English language orthography and rationalize it whilst retaining its inherent richness and resilience to entropy.

So if I spell certain words in my comments in your stream "incorrectly" I'm doing it on purpose. I know exactly what I'm doing ; ^ )

Why I don't have a Popular set
Why would I want one of those? That would be just like Amazon: "How helpful did you find this review?" star rating widget, please give it a rating. A self-reinforcing populist device whose only purpose is to ensure the most popular things become even more popular than they really are, and stay absurdly popular.

Particular pictures in my stream are consistently faved by users who click the "popular" link at the top. It's bad enuff I can't disable that populist reinforcement device. Adding a Popular set would make the populist effect even worse. We're not doing that.

A few other things
* please don't post any awards glittery tat or froth in my stream. Things like gold Oscar statuettes are a form of visual pollution I don't want.

* I don't join groups that require members to post comments on several pictures of other members in the pool, bestow pointless awards on members or invite more members into the group. We're not doing that.

* Dick me around or engage me in nonsensical conversations in my stream and I'll give you a game of verbal hardball before I block you.

* I'm 48 so please don't talk to me like a 16 year old

* I'm a male Martian and I'm married to an Earth woman.

    Ray Larabie says:

    "Jimmy James hardly ever does donuts with his motorcycle in my living room. I don't think you could say the same about most people. That is why Jimi is special: special like Santa as an astronaut. A specialness that can barely be comprehended let alone pronounced. Jimi has special way of making letters, numerals, punctuation and tea. 3 cheers for the great Jimi. All bow in his presence and anoint him with various salad dressings. Spare a crouton and enjoy with wonderful imagery."

    "James has a terrific eye for form and detail, and he makes tasty,
    witty typefaces. They make me want to find projects to use them in.

    He is also a font of type wit and wisdom. I've learned a lot from him;
    I've worked with type most of my professional life, but until recently
    I was content to not to make any glaring mistakes.
    Then I needed to learn more. I needed to know how digital type is
    made, how it works and what, if anything, makes one font better than
    another. A surprisingly contentious subject in which James' voice has
    been informed, balanced, witty and respectful."
