I'm a happy hack who loves photography and slowly trying to improve my skills. I guess my interest comes from my grandfather, John Weir, who was never without his camera to hand when I was a kid, and occasionally let me have a go. Some of his photos are included in my sets.

I did a couple of photography modules as the practical element of my Communication Studies degree in the 90s but the emphasis was on theory and I wasn't really interested, so I taught myself the basics of shooting and developing and did my own thing. Now I work at the university and have access to a good range of kit - and a film processor, a godsend - so I've picked up the interest again in recent years and am trying to improve.

My Flickr serves different purposes. In one way it's a blog, documenting my life and environment. It's also a workbook, so I'll post a load of more creative stuff and then whittle it down. In time I also hope it'll be more of a portfolio. I don't aspire to be a full-time professional, but I've sold enough work over the years for it to be worthwhile commercially as well as creatively to improve my skills.

I own an Olympus OM10 - recent defunct, sadly, and a Sony compact. I also shoot on Nikon DSLRs, mostly on a D300. Recently I have been rediscovering the appeal of shooting film - and at 50mm, trying to up the standards with metering and depth of field especially.

I'll shoot anything, for community groups, arts organisations, public events etc - but my particular interests are gigs, buildings and the urban environment (especially London) - night and studio photography - even some 3D.
