"Tight toy night, streets were so bright.
The world looked so thin and between my bones and skin
there stood another person who was a little surprised
to be face to face with a world so alive.
I fell.
Didja feel low? No, not at all. Huh???
I fell right into the Arms of Venus de Milo."5th June, 2009

When I first came across annenes stream it didn’t hit me straight away it lingered until I was out in merry engerland walking in my shoes, chewing gum, clicking my fingers to some old jive when....
KEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRBBBBBOOOOOOMMMMM the full impact of annenes work hit me! With the resulting spoooge being so powerful that it ripped my y fronts in two and sent me face first straight into the mouse... poor mouse didnt even see it coming."19th September, 2007

"it took quite some time for me to warm up to the images on annene's stream...
pardon me for saying so, but initially i found them a tad precious and perhaps a little too esoteric for my simple literal mind to appreciate..
i am known as a bit of a bullshitter around these parts...but i do not lie..
so when i say that this stream serves up some of the finest images that flickr has to offer...it's no joke...
thx AvD...i think i'm finally starting to get it..."7th April, 2007

GStrader says:
"Eloquent words abound here, about Annene...and it goes without saying that none of those words no matter how well they are put together, quite describes her.
I will not be so eloquent, I will just say that as one can see by all the tributes posted here about Annene that two or three things jump out.
One, that Annene is a great photographer, perhaps as great as Ansel Adams, or any who came before.
Two, that Annene is unique, one of a kind, often imitated, never duplicated. Just when you think you have her figured out, she smiles and gently knocks you on your butt with something unexpected.
Thirdly, and most important of all, Annene is one of those addicting personalities. She knows no stranger, and the longer to know her, the more you love her. From the tributes posted here, I would have to say that Annene is loved by many, many people. That perhaps is the greatest tribute of all! Annene, I/we love you."18th January, 2007

"No question, Annene is the most interesting American photographer on Flickr. "American" is there because her work is a delicious, sizzling 3/4 pounder of sexual surfaces with the cheese scraped off, topped with pixels and Special Sauce containing 17 secret herbs and spices, wrapped up in a leopardskin enigma. On wheels."

If you are just here on a lark checking out the profile, please listen to the people on this side of the page and jump to the photo page pronto, and especially the mind blowing photosets. Parched desert? Check. Urban hell? Check. Roadside Americana? Check. It's all there, Clyde. "Annene von Durchgerockt is my prefered FlickR contact. She works on a "classical" but very modern urban photography that shows our cities just the way they are. Many of her photographs are real masterpieces and I feel very sorry that my GERMAN words are too few and my ENGLISH is too poor to express what I think about every one of them. Thanks very very much for sharing!"

Zen Cat says:
"It’s amazing how we can go to the market, drop in at sears, stop at Firestone to get the tires rotated, and simply be part of these very venues day after day and have their images pass into oblivion. It’s even more eerie how one can walk down the same block, go to the same post office or sit in a classroom, airport, bus station or local burger joint and never really see what is in front of them. Someone once said, “The camera helps us to learn the art of seeing.”
Well Annene has an uncanny talent for doing just that - to see. Going through her photostream you will find images that you see every minute of every day when it comes to your moving about and without thought these very same images slip comfortably into the unconscious. The world would not be the world without this array of form around us. In short she takes the invisible world of our surroundings and turns it into a visual titillating art form to be appreciated."28th July, 2006

"Annene V D, has two faults, one, she doesn't drink beer, and two, her images grab you by the nuts.

Tim McDonough says:
"Best of all are her building images. Like genuinely talented artists she finds the remarkable in the mundane. The innumerable drab apartment complexes sprawled across southern California become great, jutting monoliths, stabbing into the hazy sky and I cannot turn away; a line of windows on an exterior wall become a delicate balance of geographic proportions. What's the best thing one can say? These are inspiring."

Stephen R Mingle /Gonzo® says:
"I'd scrawl Ms. Annene a testimonial, but that would be redundant, and she doesn't need ego stroking while she's out there doing the work of sages, sooth-sayers, and visionaries. I won't bother her while she in the process on contextualizating everything- that "all the slackers of the universe" wish they had figured out.
And if that weren't enough:
plus: Annene throws the best parties!"5th July, 2006

"Annene said when she was just about five years old, "Hey y'know, there's nothing happening at all. Every time I put on the radio, you know, there's nothing going down at all. Not at all." Then one fine morning she puts on a New York station, she couldn't believe what she heard at all. She started shaking to that fine, fine music - you know, her life was saved by rock 'n roll."

theGolfer says:
"Annene is a house with uncountable rooms. Once you have entered it, beware not to get lost. Behind every door you will find another room and another room and another room, containing fascinating new things to discover. You will find large ones sheltering all kinds of a species, and small ones with only the highest art of its kind. The cellar is a labyrinth with numerous catacombs, showing dark relics from long gone times and the attic consists of ateliers where the light floods through the windows and beauty has found its home. If you now think, oh, this is too much for me, just go to the kitchens. Once you found those, you will never want to leave again. And that is good, because the neighbourhood is weird."

"While on my last german tour,
I came across random Rorschachs
of lonely streets lined with stock polaroids
of the voodoo museum being devoured
by the night of the shriners..
all of the sudden..
America in ruins,
"phoned in" New Orleans
proving once and for all that
death and philosophy

the lovely Annene von Durchgerockt

Rev. Santino says:
"I read very good testimonials here and I only want to add a few things.
It is hard to write about a writer for an immigrant from Italy like me, but I have to make an exception for Annene.
I am in forever debt with Annene for she made me walk the street of New Orleans one more time before Jupiter's Great Wrath broke the heavens a few days after she broadcasted her trip from her camera phone. One more time.
Thank you."13th September, 2005
-
Apocaplops says:
"I gotta say, I like her eye. Her photography is very intuitive, which is especially important in a Polaroid user. When she gets it right, it's dead-on, and when she gets it wrong, it ain't by much."
