A little background…
Andie Smith is a Dallas-based freelance photographer, specializing in commercial and fine art photography. She is the eight behind eight18 photography and is available for international assignments.
Andie’s favorite artistic expression has always been photography. As a child, she fell in love with the art while vacationing with her family. Even now, when she looks at those photos, she is instantly transported back in time to experience those moments again – the sights, the sounds, the smells, the people. It is Andie’s hope that her photography evokes a similar response in all her clients.
She realized photography was more than just a hobby while studying graphic design at The Art Institute – Dallas. Andie knew she had the skills to succeed as a photographer, so she jetted off to southern Florida where she studied photography at The Art Institute – Fort Lauderdale.
photography…
The majority of Andie’s work is in commercial and fine art photography. Her commercial clients include publications such as Better Homes and Gardens and Creating Keepsakes Magazine to Madator Travel.
While Andie’s specialty is commercial and fine art photography, she also enjoys capturing real life through her lens. She believes that families should be treated and photographed in the same way as any commercial or fine art client.
Andie’s favorite photography subjects are aircrafts and Americana (especially main streets).
Design…
Andie hasn’t abandoned her graphic design background. She currently works as a designer and instructor for Andie Smith Designs, an on-line design and marketing resource for professional photographers.
The end…
Her non-photography skills include talking like Donald Duck and baking a mean chocolate chip cookie.
Andie lives in Dallas with her husband, Jason and enjoys playing Wii, being crafty and, of course, taking photos! She also enjoys traveling and hopes to one day visit every Hard Rock Cafe.
She is a member of ASMP and ISAP

"andie.smith's photos hit your eyes with the demanding visual appeal of newborn babies. And she is versatile. Not only is she a superb chronicler of small town, big town, rural and technological Texas - its aircraft, its animals, its landscapes, its people - but as one of Flickr's best architectural photogs she depicts Texan architecture with a compassion which often offers up tributes to its past. And she does all this with some of the most stunning photos on Flickr.
Take note of a brilliant trio of aircraft photos - "waiting", "smile", and "shooting stars", show off andie.smith's favored Gulfstream aircraft. She brings us her talents for animal photos in "it's almost nap time", depicting an alpha male orangutan - as well as a photo of a kookaburra "sitting in an old gum tree." One of her most appealing landscape photos is "lone tree", the cover photo in her Texas set.
With architectural photography, andie.smith has few peers. Observe the way she uses light in "The Strand"; her way of observing people (or their happy lack) in "pick a seat"; her use of artificial (?) light in "Texas in lights", and her rendering of refurbished and now upscale storefronts in "210 Pilar."
Her ability to handle and display people in action and people at rest and people contemplating action is another side of andie.smith's versatility. See the brilliant sports photos "fumble" and "1st and 10", for people in action. See the portrait of her model Miss J titled "green with envy" for a study of guileless beauty that we can only hope finds some rest. And for people contemplating action, take a look at andie.smith's great portrait of Miss J again in "batter up" - this time holding a baseball bat and what might just be a whole lot of rancor. Is this just attitude being depicted here - or rage? Or is it simply a photo of a determined young woman looking for some healthy sport?
These photos and many others as stunning testify to the breadth of andie.smith's talent. Also her interests. Photogs whose interests range as widely as their talents tend to create photos people can't look away from. This is true of andie.smith's photos too - until she brings some new ones to term."11th September, 2008

"Having enjoyed Andie's photography for a while, it was especially nice to have met her and be able to call her a friend. It is certain that her years of formal training in the creative visual arts were not wasted as it's quite evident that Andie has one heck of a creative passion.
Her compositional skills are rock-solid and so well defined. I find myself revisiting the classics (oldies) in her photostream again and again. But don't take my word for it... just take a peek!"2nd April, 2008

"I always know that when I visit Andie's photostream after any given day or two pass by, I'll be treated to a series of photos that cause me to think about how and why she framed it this way or processed it that way. Her shots inspire me to take care in each shutter release and you can see that care in her PS. With that, Andie has helped me to think well outside of the box by using her highly effective Road Trip presets as well as provide me with ultra-quick responses to any technique-related questions that I pose to her. She's one of my favorite Flickrzens and I'm truly glad to know her."

"With Andie's work you get so much more than just photographs, you seem to get the feel of a place or the mood of a person. They seem to trigger forgotten memories or shared human emotions. Andie's truly an artist and a great commentator. Her eye for detail is spot on. Andie makes a great friend too, with lots of warm words of encouragement and help to share. I would recommend working your way through her portfolio, but be warned, once you start looking, you won't want to stop!!"

"Hey! The ONLY reason she is the "Queen of Kingwood" is because I left and bequeathed my title, which I had held since 1978, to her! ; )
Anyway, Andie's photos are beautiful, thoughtful, reflective and sometimes breathtaking. Somehow, she can even make Galveston, TX look like the Bahamas! As a person, she is funny and always up for an adventure! I hope she counts me as a friend, as I do her."19th July, 2007
