Alvin Dizon, a native of Alaminos, Pangasinan, has found his rhythm in capturing nature’s serenity with his camera. He loves to shoot seascapes and likes to feel the natural breeze, the sounds of water, and the unpredictable sunset and sunrise.

For creative people like him with real gifts, Alvin’s love for nature is reciprocated through photographs that make the passion appear in amazing images. Just two years since having his first DSLR (a Canon EOS400d), he has proven that his interest in photography goes beyond just toiling with a high-tech equipment. He joined a small pool of enthusiasts to put up the Pangasinan Photographers Club where he is now the vice president.

When he joined a local competition called Binmaley Photo Contest, he took home the first and third prizes – to think it was the first time he participated in a photo contest.

“What fascinates me about photography is the vastness, complexity, simplicity, beauty, and drama all in one package,” says the 29-year-old B.S. Math graduate who by heart knows the simple arithmetic involved in photography. “It is a way of expressing yourself by using the camera as your medium and the world as your canvass.”

He recalled having bought his DSLR for the mere purpose of availing its speed and image quality when shooting his favorite target: family moments. But when friends realized that he has the eye for photography, he was encouraged to upload his pictures for the world to see. While looking at a series of shots he took, one pal just couldn’t believe that the wonderful image he was staring at was just their simple street. It became clear that Alvin knows how to pull the trigger and deliver the “kill shot.”

This Far Eastern University pride has been researching a lot about photography from monochrome to portraits to landscape and travel. His drive is enhanced the fact that he’s learning a lot from other people with similar interests. It tickles him to the bone each time he sees people smiling while staring at his photographs.

A Methodist by spiritual choice, he shares, “I would like to thank God for blessing our country with very long and beautiful coastlines. Mountains are never too far away. The water is never truly still; the wind ruffles its surface and provides you with nearly glass-like reflection. It can give you almost any mood, given the right time and condition. Wavy water with lots of foreground to play around is like a playground for me.”

Having spent his elementary and high school days at the Mary the Queen Educational Foundation in Alaminos, Alvin carries the breeding of a talented gentleman from Pangasinan. His photography influences include Manny Librodo, Edwin Martinez, Marc Adamus, and of course Ansel Adams whom he loves to quote.

For him, a good shot is one that’s able to have someone’s eyes go to every detail of a picture. Moods can either be positive or the opposite for as long as they are used to drive a lensman into producing a picture of boundless beauty.

As a landscape master, he is one of those who could see beauty and choose to share it with people who are too busy to normally take notice of. For the past months, he’s been practicing topping his previous work every time he goes out to shoot. So it should not be surprising if anyone finds out that Alvin’s later shots have brighter glow than the older ones.

Noting about his picture that got published in a magazine, Alvin utters, “I think the best thing about being a photographer is being a witness on how beautiful the world really is, and getting the opportunity to immortalize it.”

And he’d rather quote the great Ansel for the last shot: “You don’t take a photograph, you make it.”
