Available Light Images Ltd, or ALI for short, was formed in the summer of 2005 by Scottish photographer Alister Benn and his Chinese wife, Juanli Sun. As they are both known to their friends as Ali, it seemed an appropriate acronym.
Since its formation, Alister and Juanli have spent the majority of their time in the high altitude mountains of Tibet, Nepal and the neighbouring Provinces of Sichuan and Yunnan in China. Initially it was their love of birds that motivated them to pick up cameras and head into the rain forests of Asia, but in 2004 a trip to the Canadian Rockies awakened a keen interest in the landscape and for Alister in particular, night photography.
