algo's photostream
|
Digital Photography and retirement have reignited a love of taking and making pictures. I've never felt a need to share before - but ease of computer access on Flickr seems to make it so convenient .... why not try? (Although I'm still daunted by the stunning quality of so many images posted here, day by day.)
I've always believed in encouraging people in their efforts by praising them, and that surely happens on Flickr - and it still feels good - giving and receiving, and above all learning from the example of the many excellent photographers.
Please see the "most interesting" Photo on Flickr -- www.flickr.com/search/?q=Most+interesting&ss=2&s=int It may not be there much longer.

Eye de-light -- a bit of Nonsense---
What is my photo style?
It's a question I never dreamed of asking: I see what I like and press the button.
So when someone called me a peddler of "Eye Candy", obviously meant in a derogatory way, I thought-Yes - that's a label I'll wear with pride.
But hold on - Candy? Did I want to be associated with something that should be taken in small quantities, and is probably bad for you?
So I cast around for an alternative. Eye Pleasuring? Eye Nourishment? Eye ....? And then Eye Delight occurred and it has grown on me.
First, "Delightful" is a term I often use as high approbation. To delight the eye seems a thoroughly good reason to take photographs.
Then it includes "light", which is crucial to my motivation in taking pics. "De" in local dialect is often used as "of", (rather like in French?).
And deeper still when spoken it can be taken for "I delight" - which is what I experience when taking photos, and is certainly my purpose as in - "I hope I delight some who view my photos".
So there we are. I've found my photo style: Eye de-light. I hope you agree that my pics go towards that.

"Alex is a fine person, a gentleman, one of those
very special human beings we are privileged to meet
once in a while.
I wanted to write this Testimonial much earlier, as
I have been an admirer of Alex´s work for quite a while
now. Let us say, for the last 4 years. However I hesitated
because of language barrier and he deserves that only
the best is written about him.
However I decided not to be silent anymore and I am sure that Alex
will forgive a few mistakes that I might do, as English is not my mother tongue.
I love his photostream, his beautiful England, of
amazing landscapes and foggy, mysterious, atmospheric
sceneries, which are so charming to me.
I love his flowers, his colours, I love the way he sees
and pictures just every beauty surrounding him.
Besides, he has a most wonderful Set, showing the
most amazing work on hands.
It has been a pleasure to visit your stream, Alex and I
thank you for many moments of delight, while exploring
your special art.

No other single word can describe the consistently high quality of the photos he's taken over the years and continues to take."

""Eye-delight"...what a wonderful word! (And how rude of the other photographer to criticize your work... jealous, probably.) We are all individuals in this world, with different opinions, tastes, and perspectives. You choose to show us the beauty of this world; there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. (If the other photographer chooses to focus on other goals, that's fine... Each of us photographers is free to do as he/she pleases....)
...And your photographs are a joy to look at. Your ample technical abilities aside, you choose a variety of subjects, many of them common everyday things, and present them in intriguing and beautiful ways. Your descriptions and background information only add to the enjoyment of your photos. It is clear that you love what you are doing, and love sharing your creations with others.
I look forward to seeing your wonderful photos on Flickr for a long time to come! :)"16th July, 2006

"It's hard to follow the words of Felicity and Phillip in their testimonial below - such true words.
I live just a few miles from Alex, the Chilterns around here are nice - but it takes a special eye, special talent and quite some dedication to consistently capture images like he does.
I've had my eyes opened to the beauty of the countryside around here and also learned a lot about the difference between a good photograph and a truly great one.
Thanks Alex"24th December, 2005

"How long is it going to take Alex to accept for himself that he is one of the top half dozen photographers on flickr - and as documenter of his environment probably one of the best in the world? I certainly rarely see anything of his everyday standard in any of the art books on England.
Some other testimonial writer said that Alex must live in heaven. No. The miracle is that he lives in the same world as the rest of us, but he sees things in a way that I will never be able to do, and captures them to a technical level that I can only dream of achieving."10th December, 2005
