ALEX TREADWAY is a London-based photographer and designer whose passion for travel, the environment, and remote cultures has taken him on projects in dozens of countries around the world.

Alex studied graphic design and photography in England and in Denmark. His approach to photography combines a designer’s eye for compelling visuals with an adventurer’s love for exploring far-flung locations. At 17 he wandered through the Sahara in a rented Fiat, looking for fossilised marble to photograph. After art school, he took photo-documentary trips through Ethiopia, Madagascar, Tanzania, and Sumatra.

For the past three years Alex lived in Kathmandu, where his job as a photographer and designer for the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development took him on projects to some of the furthest reaches of the Himalayas. Seeking images of both people in their daily lives and the awe-inspiring landscape itself, he photographed clay forests in China, floating gardens in Myanmar, hospitals in Nepal, Buddhist Dzongs in Bhutan, living bridges in India, climbers on Everest, and the Kalasha people in Pakistan. His work has been published in National Geographic Adventure, GEO Special, and other publications, and he was named as a finalist in the 2009 and 2010 Travel Photographer of the Year competitions.
