I moved from Michigan to Alaska in 1976. Thanks, to my mom, I have been taking pictures since I was about 5 years old. I enjoy photography more then anything else. It gets me out in nature and up close to so many animals. I enjoy photographing almost everything in nature. After switching from film to digital, photography has become even more enjoyable. When not working I am usually out taking pictures. This has led to many exciting adventures. Like the time I got stuck 500 feet up on a cliff face while free climbing up to some Dall Sheep rams. Mountain Rescue, came to my rescue. Took a different route up, got above me, sent a climber down on ropes. He had me get into a harness and they lowered me down on ropes. Ever wonder what it would be like to have a bear charge you? I used to. ;-) Over the years, I have been charged 5 times by grizzlies and about 35-40 times by black bears. Been grabbed by black bears 4 times. Still, I was never hurt by them. Cow moose are more dangerous. I really enjoy photographing wildlife. Bears and Dall Sheep being favorites. Although, I don't really push selling my photos they have been published in quite a few publications. Outdoor Photographer, National Wildlife, National Inquirer, Field & Stream, Alaska Magazine, Horzu Magazine, Cabela's, BBC, Natures Best, Terre Sauvage, Gleaner, Northern Lights Calendar, just to name a few, plus many others used for post cards, calendars and books. While the sales don't make me rich they do pay for trips and new photo equipment. I have won Grand Prize in National Wildlife's Photo Contest, was a First Place Winner in the BBC Photo Contest, as well as taking first place in quite a few other contests. I enjoy sharing my photos with others. I can honestly say I have never taken a picture that I didn't think could be improved. I guess that is what I keep striving for, that elusive "perfect photo". One that I can truly look at and not find something to improve on. Then, maybe that would take all the fun out of it. ;-) Best wishes. Gary

So, far I really enjoy Flickr. Meeting lots of really nice people. I truly enjoy and appreciate the comments. One thing I like about Flickr is that I can display some of my favorite photos from other years, photos that have special meaning to me.
