Andy Kennelly's photostream
|

Hello. I’m a native Californian and I love the beach.

I am fascinated with taking long exposures.

I love a good moody shot.

I'm a big fan of architecture.

Sometimes I like to get in my own shots.

I have a thing for curves.

I enjoy playing my guitar.

I like taking photos of many different things from unusual views.

I find myself walking around framing up things even when I don’t have my camera.

I'm proud of the city I live in.

I like it when the lighting is just right.

My family is important to me.

Night shots are my favorite.
I enjoy the creative outlet that Flickr provides and I’m inspired by the incredible talent from all over the world.

"An everyday artist, Andy's photos never cease to amaze me. he always has a creative trick up his sleeve and presents them in all glory. His landscape shots are so good, I keep drooling over it for a long time! I especially like long exposure landscape shots and action shots.
I really admire the way Andy captures life in LA, Long Beach and other areas of California. He can make any place look very beautiful with his amazing photography skills.
Thank you Andy!"22nd September, 2011

"Andy tiene su mente hecha para la fotografía. No hay mucho que decir, simplemente mirar su galería. Paisajes soñados, largas exposiciones, líneas mágicas, arquitectura de otra dimensión...
Siempre encuentra eso que habitualmente nosotros no vemos, y entonces lo convierte en imágenes de una belleza y un nivel impresionantes.
Además, y por encima de todo es un contacto formidable.
Gracias por tu arte Andy!"3rd January, 2011

Photography by Claudia Fanelli, LLC says:
"Andy is true artist in every sense of the word. His keen eye, his technique and his affinity for beauty have made his images some of the most breathtaking I have ever seen. Since I don't live anywhere near California, I especially love the photos he takes there. But his talent is not limited to the beach- he has angles and twists and curves and perspectives that are mesmerizing. I am inspired each time I see a new photo that Andy has taken."

"Andy is a newly discovered contact of mine. We have only been contacts for a couple week now & I have to say that I am completely blown away by all of his images. They are so full of inspiration & emotion.
I can just look at his stream over & over again. I just new I had to write a testimonial after viewing his powerful images from Haiti, which by the way had me in tears, especially the little boy on the slide.
I've actually had that image in my mind for last 2 days since viewing it.
Your a true inspiration to anyone that uses a camera."12th October, 2010

Extra Medium says:
"Andy was the first person to come into the store that day, rushing to the back counter where I was with his broken guitar. The tears in his eyes made it obvious enough that this had to be a rush job. To fix his guitar I needed to find a replacement for his 70 gauge rare phosphor bronze acoustic guitar strings which snapped the night before while doing a benefit concert for a local non-profit of anarchist single moms with foot fungus. There was a young lady friend he was going to woo with his golden voice and new breed of guitar playing, but she was going out of town that evening and wanted to serenade her outside her duplex window before the moving truck came in order to convince her to stay. I searched through the office to find something that would replicate these rare guitar strings, but ended up finding a solution! This homeless lady who infamously wandered the streets for years decided to shave off her head in a protest of womens rights, so I banded together 900 strands of her silver, oily hair with the earwax of a unicorn I was saving in my junk drawer, strung it on the guitar, and he rushed to the castle-like duplex for his woman.
Andy was still single 5 years later. I don't know the result of his escapade in front of the duplex, but I do know he now carries the same passion for his photography. His long exposures are the best! Just look at the cord he uses for his remote timer, and make a wild guess of what it's made from."7th October, 2010

Keep up the good work!"11th August, 2010

"Andy's stream is a jewel among the thousands of streams here on Flickr, and I am one of those who are lucky to have found it. The variety of images he presents to us are never boring; they range from seascapes to portraits, and cityscapes to silhouettes -- all captured in beautiful light and well thought-out composition. There is much to look forward to and I'm never left disappointed."

"Andy has a natural eye and mind for photography. The first time I saw one of Andy's photos, I was stunned. It was an architectural photo and his use of lines and tones were utterly perfect. Since then, I've discovered that beyond a brilliant knack for lines, Andy fills frames with emotion and beauty. His ability to capture a mood, and enhance it with perfect toning, is nothing short of brilliant.
Regardless of your own personal style and preference, Andy will show you something you'll love. Take a look...he'll amaze you!!!"26th May, 2010

Chris JL says:
"Well, I never wrote a testimonial, and never planned to write one. But Andy really deserves one. I've been following his photostream for quite a while, and the more time passes the better it is. What I like most about it? His ability to surprise me! What turns him on is not always what turns me on, but he always delivers a refreshing, carefully constructed, original view. And when he hits my sweet spots, it feels so good.
If you are into cute-bikini-chick-holding-puppy-with-xmas-tree-bokeh-in-hdr type of shots only, well Andy's work is not for you. But if you wanna be surprised by what, day by day ,a man whit a camera can see in ever changing ways, you MUST follow his stream. Don't believe me? Go check his "after dark" set for example, and we'll talk about it later."21st April, 2010

"I think I met Andy and his pictures shortly after he got on Flicker. His talent was and is obvious. His skill and passion for photography result in images that are well crafted and visually striking. As good as his pictures are; I think he may be an even nicer human being. Perhaps there is a Mayberry, California."

"Andy,
You are my "One Step Ahead" and it sure has been a great ride. Living in the same city we have crossed paths not only shooting the sights but the freeways, the eateries, you name it. One day our cameras will meet but for now, it really is something to watch Los Angeles from your eyes. You show me and the world a fresh perspective with the likes of wonderful architecture, images from the sea to the mountains and nature abound. Your travels with images of compassion and emotion. Continue to be "One Step Ahead", I really get inspired from your work. Thanks for being a genuine Flickr Friend."24th February, 2010

Daniela Duncan says:
"I am absolutely amazed at Andy Kennelly’s photography! Andy is able to combine everything I admire in a photographer: amazing eye for composition, great camera skills, and excellent post-processing techniques. His work is extremely compelling.
Andy’s subjects are varied, his photostream is complete: landscapes, architecture, abstracts, portraits, nature, still life and hey, even flowers! Andy’s night and indoor shots are outstanding ~ and these are not the easiest to do! Sometimes his pictures are very natural and real ~ and sometimes they’re brilliantly, boldly processed – but they’re always extraordinary. I especially love his use of golden hues ~ he knows exactly how to use them and those images are delightful to the eyes. I see hundreds of beautiful images every day, but his work stands out. What a creative, excellent, versatile photographer!
In addition to being a remarkable artist, he is also a very kind, cool guy ~ a wonderful contact to have!"21st November, 2009

Silver Crow in Flight! says:
"I’ve ponder very long and hard on what to say about Ajax8055 (Andy) (a.k.a. Alex – inside joke :~)….. because I really wanted to get this one right. Of course if you have a look around Andy’s photostream you become instantly aware that, Damn, this guy is good!!!! And not just because he takes “good” photographs, but because there is something deeper at work here, an intensity and brilliance that begins to open up your mind to the fascinating play of light and shadow that is all around us but that only he has synthesized to such a high degree with his camera lens that you have no place to hide from the stark reality he places right before your eyes and that is this: THE WORLD IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE!!! (Or at least California is). And that beauty can be a butterfly floating on a warm breeze or the glaring sun reflected off the surface of an angelic statues face or the gleaming floor in a quiet cathedral. I’m glad that I met Andy early on in my Flickr excursions and it’s been lots of fun trading quips in our comments but when you get right down to the brass tacks of photography he is hands down a master of light, color and composition and we all can learn much from the images he shares with us. Thanks for being a true and unselfish Flickr friend and keep doing what you do best, challenging us to visual perfection!"

"One of the best things about Flickr is that you can actually make a good friend who you've never actually met. Andy taught me that through his posts, comments, and images. I love his fresh perspective, interesting vision, and wide variety of subject matter. When I DO get around to actually posting a picture, Andy is always quick to comment and offer a nice thought, or some other sort of hilarious sentiment.
I'm truly blessed to have Andy as a contact, and I highly encourage you to check out his photostream. I'm certain you will enjoy the ride!"1st October, 2009
