Starting point

I began to study painting and drawing at the Reykjavik School of Visual Art in the autumn of 2004. Two years later I enrolled on a course in oil painting. The first assignment was to go out with a camera and capture the autumn colours. Just the colours – in fact the photos were allowed to be out of focus. I borrowed my husband’s digital camera and started shooting pictures. That was my point of no return.
Digital cameras give you complete freedom. With no film or development costs, you can fire at will, taking a nigh-on infinite number of snaps on a single outing, if you’re so inclined. Two months into the course, I had acquired my very own digital camera. My trusty old film camera, untouched for twenty years, will presumably stay in the cupboard.
My landscape and flower pictures as well as the non-figurative ones – which are just colour and form with no people in them – have not proved to be overly popular candidates for the family album. These go directly into the computer, where they are a nuisance to none but can still be viewed and enjoyed.
As a photographer I’m lucky to keep dogs, which means I go for a hearty walk every day, always bringing the camera along.

Upphaf
