Advocates for Children of New York, Inc. (AFC) promotes access to the best education New York can provide for all students, especially students of color and students from low-income backgrounds. AFC uses uniquely integrated strategies to advance systemic reform, empower families and communities, and advocate for the educational rights of individual students.

We focus on the most vulnerable and at-risk students in the NYC public schools: children with disabilities, immigrant students and English Language Learners, children who are homeless, and youth who are in foster care or are court-involved. We run the only independent, city-wide education helpline, and provide one-on-one legal representation and advocacy to help children from low-income families get the educational support and services they need to be successful in school. In addition, we fight for systemic change that will benefit all students through our policy work and, when necessary, federal litigation.
