Action Medical Research is a national charity, which is dedicated to building a healthier future for everyone. The Charity is funding research into many serious diseases and conditions, including premature birth, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, osteoporosis, sickle cell disease, Parkinson's disease and stroke.
We have the broadest research programme of any medical charity that relies on voluntary support. Many medical charities have a single focus - either on a particular disease, or patient group, or a specific hospital. Action Medical Research is fighting many diseases and
conditions, helping young and old, by selecting the best research projects in areas where we are most likely to find cures or treatments.
Action Medical Research has been making breakthroughs for over 50 years, and our life-saving work benefits babies, children and adults. The Charity's successes include helping develop the UK polio vaccine, ultrasound scanning in pregnancy, the hip replacement operation, and discovering the link between taking folic acid and preventing spina bifida.
Advances in medical science are the result of years of dedicated, painstaking research by some of the brightest minds in the country. The research work we fund today is helping discover the cures and treatments of tomorrow. Piece by piece, we are putting together the building
blocks of knowledge that will help us understand why and how diseases and disabilities happen, and what can be done to treat and prevent them.
Sometimes this takes time, possibly many years. That is why our vital work is truly forward thinking - we are taking action today in the knowledge that we are creating a healthier future. We only need to look at our many past successes to appreciate what can be achieved with this forward thinking vision.
