======================================================
I was very lucky to have adventurous parents and because of them I grew up all over the world. I spent my childhood living in Africa, first Ethiopia, then Ghana and finally in Kenya, and when I was a teenager I lived two years in Bangkok and another two years in Rio de Janeiro.
When I was 18 I left my family to study in the USA at the University of Colorado at Boulder, which is where I spent some of the best years of my life. Then, after I received my Master's in IT, I moved to New York for a while and then to San Francisco for four years. However, after 14 years in the USA I decided I wanted to live in Europe and moved back to Italy in 2002.
I've been in Rome ever since, but not forever. There's just too much to see to stay in one place my whole life.
I started photography when I was 20 years old. I bought a Nikon 6006 camera with a cheap lens, took a beginner course at the local photography school and eventually set up a dark room at home. In my head I could always imagine rainy Sundays spent inside the darkroom making prints, but the reality is that I used it less than twice a year because of time constraints. For this reason I stayed at a very mediocre level for many years, often not taking any photos for months at a time.
When my girlfriend bought a digital compact camera during a trip to New York, I made fun of her, telling her that "real" photographs were made with clasic cameras and Fuji Velvia 50 slide film. Two days later I was leaving my Nikon at home and shooting everything I could with her little compact camera. What I discovered is that digital brought all the fun back into my hobby, leaving me free to experiment and train my eye, without worrying about buying film, development times, etc.
Now I shoot with a Nikon D7000 (and yes, I still use my girlfriends compact camera) and my passion has grown exponentially every day. In fact, I can't even go to the movies without bringing a camera. To this day, what I love most about photography is experimenting. I don't have a style because I purposely try to get as much diversity as I can from my work.

"This is my 4th year on Flickr and there have been (too many) moments that I despaired of this medium and wanted to give up as I could no longer for my own conscience hand out (and get) superficial comments and look at too many mediocre photos.
But lo and behold! There's ANDY!
His unique view, his capacity to always surprise with AHA moments, his wonderful representation of reality that reaches parts of our minds and hearts other photographers cannot reach ..... he is one of the reasons to continue enjoying Flickr.
Moreover, Andy is a kind spirit who is never satisfied with a cliché comment and whose words of praise or encouragement are always very much welcomed. Thanks Andy, for your photos and your presence .... !"11th January, 2011

"Any quick glance across Andy's images will readily conclude in one's mind....."these are the work of a true artist....a craftsman....an intuitive and creative individual". So why state the bloody obvious here? If you are (other than Andy) reading this.....you have pressed passed the casual onlooker and are now moving into the realm of "I want to know more". Well let me say...he is worth the knowing. I find his images a staggering delight in light and shadow....color and composition....and the world of the candid.
But the thing that makes having Andy as a contact and friend a real delight is his approachability, support and generosity of spirit. A man with his talent and following taking the time he does to look through and comment on the amateurish images I churn out ...while never the once making me feel.....well, the amateur. He is a real inspiration and a worthy place to spend some time."28th January, 2010

continuo a guardarlo e riguardarlo.

"Here's a photostream that you should take time to stop, look at everything and take in the way Andy see's the world. From his framing , subject matter, use of depth of focus, quality of presentation, the sheer variety of his images....I could go on, I should go on but then you'd be wasting your time reading this when you could be looking at Andys images. One of the best."

ha un ottimo punto di vista, mai banale, è creativo e trasforma in fotografia, dà vita, a soggetti abbandonati e dimenticati - can a radiator be beautiful? yes, it can.

"Of all the people I met in flickr, Andy is probably the most detrimental in the development of my photographic skills. I got included for the first time in the Explore 500 of June 1 and I should give thanks and credit to him for giving me the inspiration through his images. His photos are just amazing, his post-processing is off the charts. He is my benchmark to have a good or bad composition. Andy is the man.
Thanks bro."3rd June, 2009
