I have come to realize that I am drawn to abandoned places because I too have been abandoned, many times in my life. Visiting places like this is a bit therapeutic and its an opportunity to revisit past feelings and emotions. It's like I am probing the depths of my own inner being as I explore these places. I feel like I am reliving past experiences and conquering these unresolved feelings and emotions by passing through these spaces. I am drawn to abandoned places for their solitude and the decay of such testaments to human engineering. These living and breathing machines created and run my man/woman kind that churned out goods and services and now lay fallow, slowly being reclaimed by nature or succumbing to the wrecking ball. The geometric forms of machinery have a beauty; the lines, the shapes, the patterns, the scale, interdependencies, controls-levers, gauges, dials, knobs, etc. My photos are about intense light in dark spaces and forms materializing from that darkness. There is a certain sorrow I feel for these spaces abandoned by modern day's "throw away" society. I also love dirty toilets. Nothing humanizes these structures more than the inevitable need to use a bathroom.
