W. Eugene Smith said, Never have I found the limits of the photographic potential. Every horizon, upon being reached, reveals another beckoning in the distance. Always, I am on the threshold.” I wholeheartedly agree with that philosophy. Photography is a wonderful form of both communication and artistic expression for me. With a camera, I can paint using pixels, light and bold dramatic colors. What a joy it is, to live life, constantly finding a new horizon, another branch, new rocks to turn over in the stream bed of this incredibly brilliant life.

I am best known for my abstract macro work and I achieve the dreamy, surreal effect in my images via a technique called the "reverse lens method". It's very much like capturing on camera, what you might see, if you were looking under a microscope.

Photography is what I do...it is not who I am. But who I am, shines...when I have a camera in my hand. I feel a real sense of awe and wonder over that.

    "I bought a Nikon Camera with all the bells and whistles, however I only shot it in the Auto mode for more than a year. The pictures were pretty good and I was content with the outcome. I had been looking on the Internet at pictures posted by other people and thought my pictures were as good as most of the pictures that I was seeing. I started taking pictures of birds in my backyard and loved it. For more than a year I looked at pictures on the Cornell University Ornithology Lab website as well as posting some of my own for others to view. I thought, wow, this is pretty awesome seeing all these different birds from all over the country and even the world.     After doing this for more than a year, I happened to see a picture of a bird and I hate to say I cannot remember what it was at this point in time, but it just caught my eye as one of the best that I had ever seen. Fortunately for me, the person who posted it on Facebook did so from a personal site which was named after the Photography business which I believe is out of the home. The name on Facebook was and still is, "Reflections by Roni". I commented on how beautiful the picture was and to my surprise, I got a response that thanked me for my positive feedback on the picture. I continued to follow Reflections by Roni for quite a time, wanting to see the pictures that were posted of the beautiful birds that were photographed. It was not so much that the birds were beautiful, which they are as all of Gods creatures are, but the way they were captured and the quality of the picture. This was not just taking pictures, but it was Photography at the highest level that I have ever seen. Perhaps there is better out there, but I doubt it. After following Reflections by Roni for some time, I found that there were several sites that the pictures were on and a couple of them also were blog sites.

    I joined the sites just so I could follow the work that was being displayed. My favorite is "Reflections by Roni Fine Art Photography Blog" My Life At 50mm and beyond... The reason that I love this site so much is that not only does Roni post beautiful pictures, but blogs a message to match the picture based on the mood or happenings of the day. Day after day after day, I go to this blog site to see the picture of the day, read the blog and listen to the music that is also added for the theme of the day.

    All I can say is that when I thought that I have seen the best and read the most inspirational message yet, I fooled myself because every day it is just as good as the last one, or even surpasses what I have seen and read to date. Roni entered my life at a time when I needed some inspiration to give me the where with all to not just take pictures, but to learn to be a Photographer. Most recently, I have started to write my thoughts no matter how silly or dumb some may think they are.because of the inspiration I found from Roni.

    I asked for advise on taking pictures that would be better than what I shot just using automatic on my Nikon camera. Roni invited me to be a Facebook friend and somewhere along the way, a friendship developed. It is a friendship that I cherish and I thank God for bringing Roni into my life and giving me something that I can do with my life that will keep my mind working and get me out of the house to look at life as it should be seen. Not just walking about and having tunnel vision as to what is out there. To see the things that normally are just ignored because they are just there, smell the flowers, see the beauty in the birds, the clouds, buildings, roads, sewer covers, rocks, and I could go on and on. Roni put me under wing and has given me some basics to improve my pictures from just being pictures to being called photography. I have a long way to go and so much to learn, but now that I have Roni in my life for how ever long that may be, I have the heart to continue my quest to find life outside of the house and in this big wonderful place we call Earth.

    My thoughts and prayers go out to Roni that nothing but good will always follow.

We first met at a photography workshop and spent the day capturing images together.     It is quite fitting that Roni's profile commences with this wonderful quote...since her photostream is filled with her God given talents. Yet, do not be fooled by that quote. If the woods only consisted of the birds that sang best...Roni would be one of those birds. But what makes Roni remarkable is not only her outstanding work...but more so...how she praises, inspires and encourages others with less talent (uh...like me) to continue.
