Man In Red Tie

Aaron Nather lives in New York with his wife, daughter, and two dogs. Aaron creates his otherworldly characters and their surreal environments late at night in his home studio, where radioactive paint rains from tiny clouds floating overhead and octopus tentacles tickle his toes through the floorboards. His day isn’t complete without a pot of coffee, a few pages of a science fiction novel, and a big toothy grin from his new baby girl.

“I grew up in rural New York State, about an hour from the city of Rochester. When I was five years old, my Dad taught me how to shade with a pencil. That was the start of an addiction. At six, I created my own comic book league of superheroes. As a teenage skate dork in the eighties, I silk-screened t-shirts and sold paintings to friends and relatives. When I was sixteen years old, I drew a picture and won a scholarship to a summer art school, where I met my future wife, best friend, and mom to my baby daughter (all rolled into one!). It was then I realized that art and personal expression could change lives.

When I was a kid, science fiction and horror stories were my adventure and escape. I loved reading Creepy Magazine, Vonnegut, and Bradbury. In my early tweinties, I discovered the books of William Gibson and Philip K. Dick. They blew my mind, and their ideas are a part of everything I paint almost twenty years later.

I make art to provide internal balance in an increasingly complicated world, and as an outlet for daydreams that would otherwise get lost in the chaos of life in the new century. My current work shows an awkward beauty lurking beneath the surface of beings who struggle with elemental forces in their dreams and nightmares. Their faces express the bittersweet wonder of being alive and wide-awake in a savage, alien, and sadly beautiful universe.”

"i am grateful to have stumbled upon aaron's artwork... though had it not been on flickr, i'm sure i would have somewhere else, as this guy is about to blow up big time! the surreal world he has created is exploding with emotion, vivid colors, and flowing lines. his imagination drips out onto each canvas. i'm constantly amazed at the amount of detail he achieves, in even the smallest of paintings. he is a true inspiration. if you have not already discovered his work, be sure you take some time to do so... you will not be disappointed!"

"Aaron creates some amazing artwork in his spare time! His compostions are impressive and inspiring. The colors both bright and beautiful while simultaneously dark and menacing within a singular work. A definite sense of life and inner light is always present in his work whether his highly imaginative characters be good or evil. I find his work to be on par with some of the best surrealist pop work being done today, and yet, there is something about Aaron's art that recalls a sense of Biblical storyline for me as the viewer and narrative interpreter. I always look forward to seeing new work from Aaron!"

"Aaron is one of the most original artists out there today. He is unique and one of a kind. A master painter. His paintings and drawings make you realize how lucky he is to have survived the numerous acid trips he must have taken. I could spend all day staring at his stuff. It also doesn't hurt that his work hangs in every major gallery in the world."
