hello ! everyone this is my Addu Gan Maldives picture gallery , well i initially put this site together to share a some historical pictures with Gan and Addu's of my old and new shots ,I'm a armature photographer i like very much to taken photo's in my country and my home city ADDU, there are beautiful and nice location much more historical and traditional. must be" ADDU GAN ISLAND MALDIVES".
When I share my photos with others it’s an opportunity to get to know about Gan in the olden days which I know very little about as I was very small. I realize that we have had quite a lot of services from Gan and that’s one of the things which made me interested to know more about the past of the island.

THE ISLAND OF GAN
Gan Island is just one of in the Addu Atoll and is also the last and most southerly island in the Maldives. It is about 1and 3quarter miles long and 5 quarter miles wide. It is situated at longitude 73 09.3' East of Greenwich,and 0 41.6' South of Equator .
The biggest influence on Addu's modern history has been the British bases , first established on gan during WW II as part of the Indian ocean defense in 1956, they developed a Royal Air Force base on Gan island as a strategic cold war outpost . the base had around 600 personnel permanently stationed here, in 1976 The British pulled out , leaving an Airport, some large industrial buildings, barracks,jetties,maintenance sheds,a NAAFI canteen,golf course,tennis courts and lot of unemployed people who spoke good English and had experience ,working for Westerners. many of these structures remain, some run-down but not ruined,others are used for various purpose . most of the island's lush native vegetation was cleared , but the British then landscaped with new plants - avenues of Casuarina equisetifolia , (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casuarina ) and "Delonix regia or poinciana regia. ( flame of the forest ) ..
