THE CARRIAGE IS A UNIQUE HOSTEL

The Magic of The Carriage continues to attract, families, the budget traveller and the curious, it is recognised as one the most enchanting hostels in Ireland by Lonely Planet,Rough Guide and Routard.
The Railway Station itself was created in 1996 using recycled railway materials to house a 150-year-old mahogany carriage, which was rebuilt by local craftsmen. It consists of five snug bedrooms, two doubles, and three 4-bunk bedrooms. The beds are hand-made from old railway sleepers, they are solid and very comfortable. All compartments, have WHB and central heating.
To the rear of The Carriage is a large, very warm, cosy sitting room with an open turf fire, which is often transformed into an impromptu venue by the many musicians and poets who frequently visit or stay with us. There is a dining room and kitchen decorated and equipped in a traditional style. The carriage also has three showers and a utility room.

Corcreggan Mill Carriage Hostel is set in what was once an important pre-Celtic site, said to be the energy centre for the whole northwest of Ireland. Some 175, recorded, archaeological sites , 7 golden sandy beaches, the spectacular 200 mtr. Horn Head sea-cliffs, and one of Ireland’s two remaining indigenous forests at Ards forest park are just a few of the great locations within an 8km radius. The historic Doe Castle, ancient seat of the Mac Sweeney Chiefs of Doe,beautifully situated on an inlet of Sheephaven Bay is also within striking distance. Don’t forget of course, the many authentic traditional live music pubs nearby.

The Kiln House, which was once used for drying corn, has been renovated in a rustic style. Upstairs, it has one dormitory room, and a double bed in a mezanine loft. Downstairs, are kitchen, dining room, shower and toilet facilities. This building is normally only open from May-September except by prior arrangement.
