I grew up in Rochester, NY, (the home of Kodak!) and went to college at John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio.

I got my PhD in Spanish second language acquisition from the University of Pittsburgh in 1997 and lived there until 2005, commuting during the week to my first job as a Spanish professor at the University of Akron, in Ohio.

Then I took a job as a professor of Spanish education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 2005-2008, but then moved to Philadelphia to work at Temple University as a professor of Spanish applied linguistics. I really love the city and find it a fascinating place to take pictures.

From 2004-2009, I used a 4 megapixel Kodak DX6490 as my main camera. Now, I have a 10 megapixel Canon Powershot SX30 IS. I really love these all-in-one non-SLR cameras because they're compact, versatile, and don't require carrying around a lot of lenses and equipment. The Kodak had a 10X optical zoom. The Canon has 35X optical zoom, and gives the equivalent range of a traditional 24mm-840mm zoom lens. It really works great in low-light conditions, too. I love it!
