I lived in Nakon Phanom, NE Thailand (Isan) in 1971 - 72 . This experience inspired me to travel independently for three to four weeks per year , some years with an extra short trip thrown in as well . I traveled some of Western Europe in the seventies. In the eighties it was mostly South and Central America, with three trips to SEA (Thailand & Indonesia). I believe the nineties were all Latin America, many times to Peru, Ecuador - Galapagos and Guatemala. The new century has brought me to Europe and six times back to Thailand and some of its neighboring countries. I visited Laos on each of the trips in the last six years and I have found it to be a fascinating country. It very much reminds me of the Isan that I left 36 years ago.

It's about time for a new paragraph... 2009 landed me and my family in Ecuador. It was my seventh visit, but the first since 1993. It was the first visit for my wife, Jen and the boys, Tony & Vinny (12 & 11 yrs.).

Earlly in 2010 was another trip to SEA. We visited Issan and Southern Laos. I finished the trip with a bicycle ride from the Thai border at Chong Mek, over the Bolaven Plateau and on to Danang in Vietnam.
