With respect to photography:

I don't consider myself a photographer, but I do thoroughly enjoy the medium. My subjects usually revert to three things:

1) People, particularly when considering the Cartier-Bresson idea of "capturing a moment in time."

2) Weather, particularly thunderstorms on the prairie.

3) Finding compositionally visual gems in otherwise bland or overlooked common spaces.

I use photography as a mixed media sculptor to inform my visual interests. It is a tool. Photographs can begin an attempt to capture certain ethereal spatial circumstances which later act as inspiration for my three-dimensional work.

Rarely do I find photographs that truly convey the awesomeness of a place, particularly with respect to the light in certain situations. However, one particular Flickr photographer that I've come across does this very well, especially with his landscapes. See jal0021's work via this link: flickr.com/photos/jal0021/ .
