Retired from the USAF in 85. Alaska since 1980.
I retired from real work in 02 and 5 years to the day I was asked to return to my old job. Just to put the wheels back on the bus. The wheels really weren't off the bus just need a little air. I retired once again May 1, 2010. So lots of camera time once again.
After my wife RA and my dog Toots (Golden Retriever) photography is my passion.
In 08was diagnosed with Prostrate Cancer and as a result had two major surgery's. Men if you are over 40 PLEASE get an annual PSA test. It may well save your life and keep you from having the surgery's I had.

ImagesOfTheWild says:
"I met Doug years ago on a photo sharing board. He and his wife RA are salt-of-the-earth folks, kind and honest. Couldn't ask for better friends. We've gotten together a couple times in Colorado, and several times in Alaska. Great times! Doug is responsible for getting me interested in wildlife photography, and that has continued to this day. He is one heck of a photographer, knows the animals WELL, and never hesitates to share his knowledge of their behavior and locales. In short, he is a great bud!"

"Its been a great pleasure to know Doug here on Flickr. I have never written a Testimonial here for anyone. But Doug's photography and friendliness has got me to write these few words, whereas I can write a long page here which he deserves very much. Doug's photos inspire me a lot and there is so much to learn. I just saw his website today and found it completely amazing. I wish him all the very best for his future in photography."

"I've known Doug through Flickr for a little over two years now. He was one of the first very people to comment on my early photos and was more than gracious when it came to his words (and trust me, my originals weren't that good. :-)
Over these past two years, I've seen nothing but wonderful images coming from Doug and I'm truly impressed with each new image. Doug is truly a master when it comes to photographing Bald Eagles, and other Alaskan wildlife, but it doesn't stop there. He finds ways to bring out the beauty in every photograph that he takes and has been a wonderful inspiration to me since I joined. I'm so glad to have him as a contact and I'm sure that you'll enjoy his photostream."15th January, 2008

Macrofocus says:
"Doug's photos are an inspiration to all of us who would fancy ourselves nature photographers. His eagle photos are simply the best, bar none. But the wonder does not end at his animal photographs. His excellent eye for detail is apparent in his outstanding flower images. The selection, composition, color a detail make his closeup work stand apart from the rest. Just when you think you have reached the limits of what any person could do well, you come across his landscapes. Doug is the master of the grand scenic image. Take a look at his photostream and see if you don't agree. On a short list of my most admired photographers, both on Flickr and off, Doug would certainly rank near the very top."

JMW Natures Images says:
"I have come to know Doug from another interactive web site from many years ago. His camera equipment has changed quite a bit from the early days of the Sony Mavica to the present day Canon DSLR's but his photographic images have always been a touch above all others. This only proves the fact that the equipment does not a photographer make but the quality and talent of the person behind the equipment is a truly gifted great photographer.
Well done my friend, keep em coming.

"After being one of your contacts for over six months now, I feel I need to write you a testimonial. Your shots blow me every time I look at your photostream. You are so privileged to live in such a beautiful country and your photographs have captured its beauty perfectly. I enjoy so much to live in your world vicariously through your pictures. And your eagle shots-a friend of mine has been photographing eagles for years, been to Haines, AK several times and your photos are far superior. Thank you for being my flickr friend and I look forward to viewing more of your beautiful photographs."
