i love curves, contrast, shapes, lines and angles. i love colors, textures, tones, grain & mood. these are the things i try to capture on film and digital. at the moment i prefer film because i find that i focus more. i don't flip the camera down and check the lcd after every shot. i compose, focus, crank (or insert film holder & pull darkslide) and trip the shutter. i can then move on to the next shot knowing that i did my best to create what i hope to call art. i also enjoy the anticipation that comes with waiting to deliver the film to the lab followed by the wait to have it developed. sometimes it's not what was expected, but most times it's just about right.

Kent Mercurio says:
"From what I've seen from Matt's stream and the small amount of testimonials he has in his profile page, I've come to the conclusion that he is one of the most under appreciated (not by me) film shooting Flickr-ers. Having lived in Arizona before, I can truly appreciate how he can find photographic subjects and make them truly interesting. Thanks for sharing your vision of the non-typical beauty in the desert with us here in Flickrland!"

"One thing I can truly see in Whickus' work is time. Time and care that go into the choice of film, the composition, the exposure, and above all, what he really wanted to get from that moment in time. Following his work and his genuine fascination with photography and what it can produce is something to behold.
And I have the pleasure of seeing it unfold in person :-D"11th November, 2007
