In spite of what the FlickrToy "Scout" and the button here (see above) often says, I have had a grand total of ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN photos selected for Flickr's EXPLORE (that I know of, at least). It's no big deal, I guess...in fact, five of the photos weren't even taken by me. Here's a link to the whole set...

Here's my "not widely traveled" map...it may include more than this, but one family trip was made "long ago" when I was completely unaware of such things...

Here's my "Wordle," created by a Java applet found on the Utata page by using the tags from my photostream...(it's clickable so you can see it in a larger size - and you can create your own if you want to)...

I'm finding lots of "Favorites" around the Flicker site and feel like I'm learning a lot just studying them. These are the kind of shots I'd love to take - but haven't the skill, the equipment, the time, the...(whatever other excuses). But I still dream and go "kodaking" whenever I can find the time.

My first camera was a black plastic Kodak Brownie Starlet, a 1956 model camera that used 127 film.
my first camera
I used that camera until I bought the first of two Instamatic cameras (loved the 126 film cartridges and flash cubes!), including model 104 and 304. I also owned several Polaroid cameras, including the 'Swinger' and a model 104.

My first SLR was a Minolta SRT 100, which I still have and which is still a functional camera. I enjoyed the Canon Elph, a small APS camera that I called my 'spy camera' and also used a Pentax IQZoom 140 for awhile. Finally, after the rest of the world had decided to 'go digital,' I upgraded to a Canon 35mm EOS Elan IIe...and after Santa's visit in December 2006, I added a Canon S2 IS to my collection...so have joined the 'digital' trend. I do not anticipate getting a DSLR, though (too expensive for my needs).

With the IIe I use Canon USM 24-85 3.5-4.5, Tamron 70-300 4.0-5.6, and Canon 50mm 1.8 lenses. Most of the time, I use the 24-85, which I acquired only recently (July 2006); it replaced the 28-80 "kit" lens that came with the camera.

UPDATE: 20 April 2008 ~ My "newest" camera is a Yashica Mat TLR just purchased on eBay this afternoon. It will be sent for a CLA immediately upon its arrival, then I'll be learning how to use it. I'm eager to begin.

UPDATE August 2, 2008, I am considering a foray into the DSLR arena. After much deliberation, research, discussion, and a massive comparison of "cost vs. benefits" issues I have decided to purchase a Nikon D-40, if I can locate a new one before the supplies are exhausted. It's a fine camera and the 'consumer' lenses are perfectly acceptable to me...and they are affordable!

UPDATE August 4, 2008 -- purchased a new Nikon D40 with "kit" 18-55 lens. Hope to add the 55-200 VR and a 50mm f1.8 to the bag one of these days (Santa, are you listening??).

UPDATE January 20, 2009 -- purchased the 55-200 VR lens from BH.

UPDATE July 21, 2010 -- purchased the 35mm f1.8 lens from Amazon.com.

UPDATE October 21, 2011 - purchased a new Nikon D7000 with 18-105 VR lens. I never dreamed that I would own such a fine camera!

I'm learning the craft of photo restoration, part of my efforts in genealogy and preservation of our family's photographic history. I learned with Photoshop Elements 3.0, then upgraded to version 4.0, then 6.0, and am now using version 9.0. The members of Flickr groups "Photo Restoration & Colorization" and "Photoshop Elements" are especially helpful.

If you discover duplicate photos in my site, let me know. I try to be careful, but I am, after all, "pushing sixty."
