My name is Suzanne Cummings and I live in Huntington Beach, California.

I first became seriously interested in photography, 50 years ago, when I went to work for a company that made educational audio-visual materials . The staff photographer helped me buy a Graflex 35mm camera for $35 and on a trip to New York and Washington D.C. I shot hundreds of Kodachrome slides that I'm still rather proud of. In the 70s I studied with John Sexton and worked extensively in the large format black & white style of Ansel Adams. These days I use mostly digital and feel assured that in the process of trying to master (if that's at all possible) Photoshop and related software, my aging brain is getting plenty of exercise.

I love all kinds of photography and, although my film background was primarily in black & white, I'm doing much more color work since switching almost exclusively to digital. I am torn between the grand landscape in perfect focus and the more impressionistic pictorial effect...soft vintage tones and working with textures and actions. The "pictorial" style was much maligned by Adams, Weston, et al, but I've always loved it and thanks to flickr, I've learned that all good photographs do NOT need 10 zones. So, don't expect the same thing from me everyday. I may go from a flaming red sunset, one day, to a soft, vintage looking floral the next.

My inspiration: Andrew Wyeth, Edward Hopper, Joel Meyerowitz, Lilo Raymond, Christine Triebert, Roman Loranc

Equipment:
Nikon D300
Nikon D80
Canon G9 (I keep this with me at all times)
Nikon 18-200mm VR
Nikon 50mm f1.4
Tamron 90mm macro
Lensbaby Composer w/plastic optic

Processing:
Aperture 2
Photoshop CS5

Note: I will block any person who faves my images without leaving a comment, who doesn't have pictures in their stream, and/or does not have an icon. Sorry!

"I have been an admirer of Suzanne's work from the first image I viewed two years ago. She has a distinctive and appealing style that is so "Americana". Most of her photographs look like they might have come directly from the covers of Collier's magazine or Currier and Ives prints. Her photographs are always personal and romantic. She is a true artisan and a great talent."
