I normally start by telling people "I make pictures," but that's boring.

So what I do is this: I bring a contemporary eye to the classic mid-20th century illustration style by acknowledging the widening of the cultural appetite. I am using the same traditional methods, yet depicting a much larger world. As I see it, the world is just as bright and colorful and intricate as it was in those golden picture book days. But in my world there are also people of all ages, races, abilities, sexualities, shapes and sizes.

These days we seem to have quick choppy lives. Things are a little bit looser, a little more frantic. But people still wear neat clothes and go to the store and go to the circus and the seaside and have quiet magical adventures. They do that no matter what they look like. That's something the modern worlds needs to be reminded of.
