"Light Makes Right"

Happy Thanksgiving with a Caveat

The majority of my work was done with film because I like the medium and I prefered using film cameras. Now I have started using a Nikon D70 digital camera which allows me to continue using my MF AIS lenses, as well as dedicated digital lenses. The costs and inconveniences of film have finally overwhelmed me. I do not know how to use Photo Shop nor do I want to, though I do post processing to crop, alter brightness and contrast, and to alter color. I also use Picnic on occasion.

I do not believe in any inherent virtue of using film over digital nor do I think that a fellow photographer who spends a day rebuilding a photo with PS is wrong--if that's his thing then I only wish him well and hope he's happy doing that. It's not for me, but I don't think the realization of anyone's vision that is created with his own hands and imagination should be hampered by anything, including attitudes.

My current photographic tools are:
Nikon F-801S
Nikon F3
Nikon D70
Nikon P5100
AF Nikkor 50mm f1.8 lens
AF-S Nikkor 35mm f1.8G lens
Nikkor-S 50mm f1.4 lens
MF Nikkor H 28mm f3.5 lens
MF Zoom-Nikkor AIS 28-50mm f3.5 lens
MF Nikkor-QC 200mm f4
Olympus Trip 35 with a D.Zuiko 40mm f2.8 lens
Olympus XA2 with a D.Zuiko 35mm f3.5 lens

It pleases me to see so many other people able to express themselves as I'm doing here in flickr. It continues to be an insightful and fulfilling experience to see all the photographic work from the far corners of the earth.

The beautiful animal from which I derived my screen name is endangered throughout its ever-decreasing range. The situation is extremely critical and wild tigers world-wide may soon be extinct. "What can I say to do justice to Tigersight? His encouragement and friendship to me personally are one of the main reasons why I have persevered with photography. Many a time I felt discouraged with my images and Tigersight would leave a very insightful comment, or drop me a few encouraging lines, which would point me forward with renewed enthusiasm. He is very passionate about photography and he communicates this, along with warmth and enthusiasm, to us his friends who are privileged to know him.

I feel I am not qualified to comment on his work except to say that it blows me away. There are several (nay, very many) of his images which are burned into my brain and I look forward to the day when an opportunity presents itself for me to capture something similar to any one of these. Something tells me I am going to be waiting a very, very long time. Tigersight is obviously a master of all the skills required for photography; throw into the mix that he also has very keen artistic and contemplative vision and you know there is something very special here. Keep up the good work Tigersight, and thank you for being who you are."
