My name is Andrew. I live in Omaha, Nebraska. That should explain my user name: andyofne.

Originally from Stonington, Connecticut, I moved around quite a bit.

I've always had an interest in photography and "filmography" but I don't have the artist's eye. I simply accept that for what it is and move on. I still enjoy taking pictures and hope to take a photography class this summer.

As a small child I loved taking pictures with the Kodak and Polaroid instant cameras. I remember winning $200 when I was 15 and buying one of those goofy Kodak 'disc' cameras. I never got a good picture from that piece of crap but I thought it was so cool.

Besides civilian clothes, the first serious purchase I made after getting out of boot camp was a Minolta S-570 35mm SLR camera. I spent a boat load of money taking horrible photos but I enjoyed it so much, I don't think I'd ever had as much fun in my life as I had in the mid-80s.

While in the Navy I traveled all around the world to places like Mombasa, Kenya in Africa and to Hong Kong, Singapore and various other places in the Far East.

I took thousands and thousands of photos but I lost many of them during a move from the Philippines to Japan in 1989 when one of the crates carrying my possessions was vandalized.

In the mid 90s I bought one of the first Sony digital cameras. It was a 640x480 camera that took grainy pictures even on a good day. Data transfers were at 38400 bps over a serial cable and it didn't hold that many photos but I loved it. Unfortunately, I had a hard drive crash a few years back and lost most of the digital images I took between 1995 and 2001. Despite having burned several back-up CDs through the years, two of the CDs came up blank when I went to restore my photos.

My next digital was a Canon Powershot G1 that was gifted to me on my birthday in 2001. I still have the G1 but it is on it's last leg, so to speak.

Today I'm using a Canon Digital Rebel XTi (400d).

I have four lenses:

Canon EF-S 17-55mm/f2.8
Canon EF 75-300MM/f4-5.6 telephoto
Canon EF 50mm/f1.8 I bought it on eBay (used) and it fell apart after 2 months.
Canon EF Compact macro 50mm/f2.5
Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM

I also have a new toy... a small P&S. It's a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS1. It's a pretty handy camera to carry around in my jacket pocket and it takes reasonably good photos.
