dooda's photostream |
I mostly sneak out at night and take photos. I find it interesting to get effects that we normally wouldn't be able to see. It makes me wonder about reality. I get all sorts of weird colours and wonder what colour the sky really is, and if there is anything different from what I see and what the camera records.
I'm sort of getting bored of the long exposure night landscapes though, so I haven't been going out much lately.

troycochrane says:
"For some reason, I've decided to write this testimonial while getting ready to go to work. That's just the way it is with Dave. His calm, positive and contemplative nature sneak up on you when you least expect it. He has an ability to make you feel better about the world and it's nice when, for some reason, you think of him, out of the blue.
As it is with Dave the person, so it is with his photography. Today, I had to return to one of his images and view it again. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way for suddenly, without any self-promotion on his part, a seemingly random shot from Dave's stream will explode in popularity. It's all the people who've ever stumbled across his work, wondering, "I wonder what Dooda's photographing now?""21st September, 2008

"I can't believe I haven't written a testimonial about the flickr icon dooda yet! He shoots his photos with aplomb, winning competitions with his combined elements of long exposures, refrigerators, and the odd butt.
Having met him in person, I can now cross #46 off my list of 100 things to do before I die. Let's be sure to keep it going Dave."20th July, 2007

"dooda is an astonishing photographer. His images are foremost dramatic but they also convey a wonderful sense of stillness, quiet contemplation and tenderness. His portraits combine beauty, oddness and humour at equal measures and we are always aware of the affection he brings towards his subjects. Whilst he works mostly in black and white he also demonstrates an astonishing colour sense in his photography.
His work is accomplished at a high level of technical perfection and he never, ever takes a clichee-shot. His view of the world is always fresh and uniquely his own.
dooda is also a very generous and gentle person and I'm so glad to have met him on flickr."23rd December, 2005

Kalense Kid says:
"dooda may look sort of simian, but under all that hair lurks a great photographer. He astonishes me again and again with his visual insights, and I've always liked his comments on photos. His vision is clear and direct, and he says what he thinks. A good guy to have in this community. Look at his stream - you'll do yourself a favour."

"gorgeous night-shots, thoughtful landscapes, and a patient eye. Dave's images always seem to have a quiet calm about them, a remarkably consistent mood and tone. plus he's just hilarious -- the finest gorilla I've ever met on-line."

Riv says:
"As many others have pointed out, Dooda manages many impressive feats for a nocturnal gorilla living in the city, but the most impressive of all appears to be getting a job on an oil rig. That and sneaking around in harbours shooting rather fine long exposures. As for the first, his simian strength clearly made him ideally suited to the task. The second is probably assisted by the gorilla penchant for sitting around doing not much for long periods.
Hopefully Dooda will never find the urge to return to the jungle, but in case he does, I'll be willing to chip in for a sattelite phone and a modem."3rd October, 2005

"dooda is possibly ... ummm probably ... the best gorilline photographer on Flickr."

DoubleGrande says:
"Dooda assures us that his fine night photography has nothing to do with avoiding being seen by authorities during the day.
He's a master of titles like "Almost Vertical Pole" (which I had hoped was taken in a bar in Eastern Europe), and a generous critic and teacher.
One can only hope that one day we learn whether his first name is "Camptown ladies sing this song" or "Zippity", but while waiting, we can all enjoy a trip through his photostream."30th September, 2005

SteveFE says:
"Considering he has to take photos with his thumbs, Dave has to be the ultimate Flickr gorilla photographer. How does he hold those long exposures with one hairy hand while chewing a banana with the other?"

"Dave is responsible for making me fall in love with night photography. Unlike many city photographers, who capture glitz and glitter and skyscrapers, Dave tends to capture unexpected art, softness, and honest to god emotion in his work. I'm incredibly envious.
To top it off, he also happens to be wry, silly, and overall a great guy. Now, stop wasting time reading this and go look at his photos!"30th September, 2005

"Dave is one of those people you can't miss on flickr. He's multi-talented!
His comments, especially, are in a league of their own. He's like a bundle of professors, comedians and shrinks all wrapped up in one. (All of them simian-like too ;~))
I don't know Dave personally, but I get the feeling he's the person who's the most comfortable in his skin. He knows who he is and what he's all about.
I like that he has a seat for anyone who might need a soft place to sit..."8th July, 2005

"I think we can all agree that Dooda has a great eye for picking out great shots with nice colour tones and all that other photo stuf. But somthing his pictures don't capture is that fact that he's maybe the strongest person I've ever met. I don't mean that in the emotional sense but in the Worlds Strongest Man sort of way. Oh... and he let me watch his Copies of the Office (the british version) and now I can't watch the American version.....so thanks for that."
