About my photography: It was my original intention upon joining Flickr that most of my pictures here would be scans of 35mm colour slides taken during the 1970's and 1980's, mainly of the ordinary and everyday transport subjects. Scenes of which time has marched on and have dissappeared sadly forever. It takes an inordinate length of time to produce the scans of old slides and now I find I now have more and more recent images posted.

With the aquisition some years ago of a secondhand Olympus digital pocket camera, and later its replacement with a bargain priced Kodak digital pocket camera, there are an ever increasing number of modern digital images. Things that please my simple mind in terms of shape, colour and general composition for example, snapshots taken at work, or out on drives in my car to the Peak District or Wales, meals that I have cooked, that sort of thing. The style and subject matter is broadly similar, but seperated by many many years, sometimes of decline and despair.

People have said to me about my pictures:

'I didn't think you took it, it looked like it came out of a brochure'.

'You don't concentrate on just the subject, you capture the surroundings as well'.

As for myself; I am a quiet middle aged man of simple pleasures, an habitual dullard of low expectations and tired of life. I am a very honest fellow, not well educated, hardly able to express myself. I may be difficult to comprehend and the things I say and beleive are generally misunderstood, although my speech is clear.

I rarely venture out these days, the streets are filthy and there is nowhere interesting to go anymore. A journey through Britain was once an adventure, now all I see is ruin, poverty and deprivation, nothing remains permanent but woe and despair.

I suffer a vampiric heliophobia and this brings about an aversion to going out of doors anyway at certain times of the year unless really neccesary or unavoidable. I dread and despair of the sun high in the sky between the end of March and the beginning of October.

I am a railwayman now, just like my grandad used to be. I have worked on the river board, I have been a lorry driver, I have conducted a bus too. I am alone, my heart has been broken by a beautiful gipsy girl half my age.

Eventually I shall become extinct, as the food I like to eat is not generally available in supermarkets and shops.

I am mildly aspergic and may repeat myself as I suffer from a very poor memory. I am accident prone, extremely clumbsy, incompetent, and a magnet to misfortune. You would mostly find my company dull and demeaning.

'dullard' definition; a dull man of dull persuasion and dull interests.

Thank you all so much.

    Lady Wulfrun says:

"David’s pictures are a true inspiration to everyone and anyone with the slightest interest in transport. His carefully composed, and well thought out photographs not only capture the subject brilliantly, but also the strangely beautiful environments in which trucks, trains and buses of yesterday’s Britain once worked. It really is hard not to get a little teary eyed looking back at these fantastic images, so wonderfully captured by David of a much missed bygone Britain. Thank you for sharing your superb photos with us and for being a much valued contact."
