It’s very hard for me to describe myself as a photographer but colleague Bert Stephani described me, my work and workflow as followed:

Tom Museeuw is a master in shooting kids & teens in a glamorous yet natural and elegant way. He’s doing countless portfolio sessions for the most talented young models and he is also the main shooter for Kadee magazine. Tom masters light and technique but his biggest asset is probably that he turned silliness into an art form. This allows him to quickly build a relation with his subjects and push them one or two steps beyond what another they would do for another photographer (Bert Stephani).

To be honest, I had no formal training in photography. I hate to read books on techniques and fall asleep during photography courses. I am a largely self taught photographer, driven by the feedback I receive from online communities (thank you!). I work exclusively on location, I don’t have my own studio and I’m not planning to rent/build one in the near future because there are so many nice locations out there that I don’t want to be restricted by 4 concrete walls. Even the worst day on any location beats the best day in any studio!

My style?

I try to rely as much as possible on natural light sources -thank you California Sunbounce-, but I’m not afraid to grab some off-camera speedlights to illuminate my subjects. I always try to find a perfect match between subject and background, portraits with an urban feel are my favourites.

My stuff?

Nikon bodies & lenses (85mm f1.4 & 80-200mm f2.8 are my favourites).
Nikon SB900 speedlights in combination with Maha-powerex AA’s (they rule!).
Elinchrom Skyport triggers for off camera lighting.
California Sunbounce reflectors (Mini, Pro's, Swatter) Yes, I bounce … A lot!.
Orbis ™ Ringflash.
Manfrotto/Bogen stands & clamps.
2 voice controlled light stands called Karen and Stijn.
A trigger happy pointing finger, I never leave home without him!
