For me the essence of photography is capturing a moment that nobody else has seen and being given the opportunity to show the world through your eyes and not getting bogged down with changing lenses and altering aperture settings.

iPhoneography has its critics from purists but the oldest and 1st rule in photography is to ALWAYS carry your camera and the iPhone allows me to do just that and capture any moment at anytime unlike the bulkier alternatives.

As someone much wiser than me once said “buying a Nikon doesn’t make you a photographer. It makes you a Nikon owner”



Although I can understand the concern of the camera companies who lead the way in trying to rubbish this new art form, they should not be afraid as traditional photography will always reign supreme. This is simply a new medium and art built on the older principles and technologies where you can turn your digital image into the vision that you have in your head after taking the shot with the many apps available.

It can be quite rewarding to create something with your phone and it’s relatively poor camera and non believers only have to look at pixelsatanexhibition.com/ where images on transformed into pieces of art from the iPhonegraphers vision and imagination.

The best camera anyone has though is your own eyes, and this is something that cannot be taught in any classroom or as Elliott Erwitt said “All the technique in the world doesn’t compensate for the inability to see”

I am also fascinated by urbex and being able to see beauty in hidden places where others see none
