Husband. Father. Web-slinger. Cyborg. Photographer.

Who are you?
My name is JD. I live with my wife and two kids in Austin, Texas, USA. Professionally, I work on web and mobile software for a living. Photography is one of the things I do for fun. My website is at jdhancock.com.

My photography, mostly of the slightly-giggle-worthy-pop-culture-reference variety, has been featured numerous times on the front page of Flickr Explore.

You can find my photos in print publications and on websites all over the world, including The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, TechCrunch, Lifehacker, Forbes, The Consumerist, CNET News, Wired, and the front page of Digg. I have credits on album covers, clothing, and marketing materials.

What equipment do you use?
I typically use a Nikon D50 acquired from a friend. Many of my earlier photos were taken with a simple Nikon Coolpix S50 point-and-shoot. Sometimes I'll use my iPhone camera. I don't have much specialized equipment. I use iPhoto for image management and post-processing, and I very occasionally use Photoshop. I use push-LEDs and push-lights quite a bit for indoor close-up work. I snapped a few photos of a typical photo setup and a set showing some of my gear for those who are curious.

How do I contact you?
The best way is through Flickr Mail. I'm on Twitter as @JDHancock and on many other social networks. Or you can email me.

Are you really a cyborg?
Yes, and here's why.

"When I first came across JD’s photostream, his work absolutely blew me away….one year later and nothing has changed - I am still in complete awe of his work.

JD’s shots are packed with creativity, clever humour and photographic skill – most, if not pretty much everything you see is straight out of the camera….I love trying to work out how he achieves what he captures.

I have taken a lot of inspiration from JD's work and will continue to do so....if you haven't done so already, you'll be foolish not to check out his work.

Keep up the amazing work, JD!"

"JD Hancocks photos are always entertaining using some very ingenious techniques (which he's happy to post an explain- which adds to rather then removes the magic) and his current 'Who would win?' 365 project is always great to look at and shows an amazing amount of dedication!"

"It's the first time I see such an original work! Every part of this art is unique, and most of the time funny as well.
Even funnier because we (re)discover characters from our childhood (I think about Batman protagonists for example), but the main thing, and that's the point, is that we discover them under a different light, and mainly in different situations.
This is just a truly amazing portfolio, I have to say bravo!"

    "JD Hancock? He's great!
The guy is just so clever with his words, and he'll always come up with something to cool say. Have you seen his Stormtrooper or Little Dude series? He has great ideas too!
Toys or no toys, his pics are worth seeing if you have the time :D

(This is my first testimonial, so bear with me!) :P"
