UPDATE: As of Dec 8th, 2009, I have relocated to Honolulu, Hawaii. I hated to leave my beloved Mississippi Coast, but I had too. I was in a rough financial situation. There is opportunity and beauty here, but I will forever be a Mississippi boy.

Just an old salt with the shutterbug's habit. Mississippi native and proud of it.
Ok, Ok, so there is a little more to me than just an old salt. Actually, I'm not an old salt at all. That would be a description of a Navy man. I served in the Air Force, but sailing is a passion and I can regret not joining the Navy if want.
Aloha!
"...The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever..." ~ Jacques Cousteau
I grew up on a small family farm in rural Mississippi. Living close to the land, raising all our food, has made me appreciate nature. Yet, it is the sea who captured my imagination at an early age. She has been a kind mistress. I've sailed her waters, sampled her treats, explored her depths, yet my love affair has not faded through the years. I can never be far from her.
The natural world astounds me. I am, at heart, a documentary photographer, attempting to capture those wonders with realism. Occasionally I venture into artsy stuff. Small wonders fascinate me, as do sweeping landscapes. I especially enjoy macro photography. From time to time, I'll post some of those images.
I hope you will enjoy my works as you peer into my world. I cherish the opportunity to share.
Mahalo!

charlotte's eye says:
"I have looked at Sailor's photos since I first started my flickr obsession. He is truly amazing. He has a gift of capturing the essance of the South and the beauty within it. When I look at his sunsets It feels as if I am there. When I look at his Ocean shots I feel as if i am right there on the beach. Sailor is truly one of my favorites."

"I have started a testimonial for Sailor many times, but what I wrote just didn't seem enough. An ability to capture beauty in each facet of nature, skill that makes me sigh in envy, a touch of the poet in his compositions and words, and the ability to make me laugh out loud at his observations. From the first, he has been supportive and kind - my image of a Southern gentleman. And from the first, I have always hoped that someday, I might be able to take photos like Sailor, aka. Ralph.Still doesn't express all, but, if you want to experience the joy of photography, then, you have come to the right place."

"On this one photo alone: "Summer memories" (12/26), I'm compelled to write as glowing a tribute to Sailor as my writing ability allows. And there are hundreds of other photos that are equally amazing that show this photographer's obvious sensitivity and connection to the natural world. Keep up the important work of sharing it all with us!"

"Being a native of Mississippi, it's always such a pleasure for me to realize the talent that hails from home. Sailor creates photos which allow Mississippi's natural beauty to speak for itself. Being a long way from home, this is the exact remedy I need for homesickness. Thanks for the beautiful work."

"My first testimonial for a very special person - Sailor not only is a wonderful photographer but is more importantly a kind photographer. He helped me out with a little photographic problem concerning telephone and electric lines on my photo's a while back - he's also great at giving advice. For someone who (as you will know from his write up) has had a rough time with the bad weather over his homeland he keep's cheerful. Good on you and long may you take those great photographs."

"My tribute to a person that has become a very dear friend. He has been through a lot of trials and tribulations but his spirit never falters. He may get down but the he is agile enough to bounce right back. His work as a photographer is superb. He is always there as encouragement to others.
I may never get to know him in person but I already know him in heart and spirit. The part that matters the most is the beauty in his heart. Sailor is that kind of person. He has a soft and beautiful heart.
My hat is off to this guy known as “Sailor.”
May God Bless You my Friend."1st September, 2006

"This guy is everything that is good about being southern. His love of Mississippi show's through every photo he takes. I'm constantly amazed by the beautiful shots he gets despite how devastated the area he lives in is. On top of that he's humble and hospitable and always ready to dish out a compliment (even when he's got shots that'll maker yours cry ;-))."

"Sailor has mastered the ability to capture the beauty of the deep south that I love so much. Looking at his pictures daily makes me long to feel the sand between my toes and the waves lapping at my feet. His beach shots are stunning and his whimsical seagull shots always make me smile."
