I have been dabbling in photography all my life, but really got interested after my parents gave me a Minolta XG-1 for my college graduation. I used it for over 17 years before it died (photographing the Elgin Marbles in the British Museum--I should have known better than to photograph plunder).

I work hard on composition and rarely edit my photos. I also rely on commercial processing for my film shots. I have never seen the (infrared) light of a darkroom.

I didn't join the 21st century until February 2009 when I got my first digital camera.

I am strongly influenced by the painter Edward Hopper, who supposedly once said, "All I really want to do is paint light on the side of a house," as well as by the photographer Walker Evans, who was also shy and a lover of urban landscapes.
