My name is Mike, and I am from Ontario, Canada. It's August of 2009 and here's my update - I'd had the same description for over a year, and thought that an revised one might be in order. It's not that I've changed drastically in the past year, but all the small subtle changes add up over time.

I had been playing around with point and shoot cameras for a few years now. Nothing serious, just the standard fare of family gatherings and birthdays with the occasional field trip to the local conservation area mixed in. I've always enjoyed pictures, not just taking them and admiring them in albums, but by working with them on the computer as well. For me working with the photos I've taken in various photo editing programs is half the fun of photography. I've had my digital SLR for over a year now, and every time I take it out I learn something about it. Not that I'm any great expert or anything, but I do enjoy experimenting with it to achieve new effects. It's a Nikon D60, and by now it's certainly not top of the line, but it's good enough for me. Maybe once I've mastered its features I'll consider upgrading. I saw this lovely D90 in the store today that was very tempting ...

There's something about going out to take pictures. It's a different feeling, to go out and deliberately look for something beautiful to capture on 'film'. It forces you to look for the good out there. For me anyway it makes me less cynical, and it lets me explore my creative side which I hadn't had much opportunity to do for a long time.

My pictures might not be art, but I'm having the time of my life taking them.
